TONGUE LASHINGS

"DAY OF THE DEAD:
A Zombie's Perspective"

FIRST THERE WAS NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
THEN DAWN OF THE DEAD
AND IN 1985
DAY OF THE DEAD...

The 3rd installment in GEORGE A ROMEO'S living dead series...and the BEST!

A small band of humans are dug in deep underground where military and civilians work to find a way to control the ZOMBIES and to cure the plague. The gore FX in this film are unrivaled, it is TOM SAVINIS best stuff ever, Head shots , guts spilling, arms chopping, eyes gouging, and the ZOMBIES' far gone look all lead to a stomach retching good time. When I saw this movie on the SILVER SCREEN a girl puked, and others got up and walked out. Now all this drooling over these goodies would have most snubbing their nose at this as a useless gore film with no soul...

HA how wrong they are!

The Human drama that plays out in this film is a strong and meaningful one, a mirror to our own daily lives how we all struggle against the others! even when civilization is down to say 10 people those 10 will still fight amongst themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best part of this film is not when The zombies go wild ....it is (dare I be a real person for a moment) John's explanation on why the worlds been overrun by the dead...

CHILLING.

A quick look at the characters: Our strong female lead SARAH (Lori Cardille daughter of CHILLY BILLY CARDILLE) is A dedicated Scientist looking for a solution. but its taking a toll on her. Her boyfriend has already cracked up.

John (Terry Alexander) the pilot would rather be "soakin up sum sunshine" instead of wasting away underground.

Mcdermott (Jarlath Conroy)The radio guy and resident alcoholic.

Dr Logan "FRANKENSTEIN"(Richard Liberty) spends long hours in his lab talking to mum and yelling at the Zombies to be good!

BUB the ZOMBIE (Sherman Howard) is learning new things all the time even how to shoot a gun.

AND of course CAPTAIN RHODES(Josef Pilato) a scary MOTHERF@$#% this guy totes 2 .357 revolvers on each side and has NO sense of humor. at one point he shoots a living human in the head at point blank range just to make a point! (a hollow point at that)

There are of course the Army guys and scientists rounding out the well acted cast. There was an alternate script to this film but I feel the lower budget helped make this a more intimate and human film.

This is a MASTERPIECE!!!!!

You see I am an EXPERT on ZOMBIE MOVIES so my opinion is more important than other reviewers who pine for a different movie.

Not that ol George couldn't pull it off im sure he could I just love this little often over looked movie. So when you are cruising the video store looking for a movie that will make you sick and make you think...

Its GEORGE A ROMERO'S DAY OF THE DEAD.

Now go buy something from the shop!

 .......till next time........
