What Horror Host worth his salt hasn't looked
at some of the movies he (or she) have had to host and
thought, "I could make a better movie than that!"
This is usually because most current Hosts have some sort
of background with film or television, which is one reason
why they have chosen to become Hosts (as opposed to some
vintage Hosts where the job chose them!)
A. Ghastlee
Ghoul and
his crew at the "Dayton Host Underground" (aka:
Suspira and Baron Von Wolfstein) are working on
their brilliantly titled "Joe Nosferatu:
Homeless Vampire." This self-styled
"Dracumentary" will be done much like their
classic "Bad Trip At Creepy Crick" in the Roger
Corman school of "pound it out in a couple of
days" filmmaking. The film will be making it's debut
at Cinema Wasteland 2004, and will be screening Memorial
Day Weekend in Dayton, Ohio at "Scary Camp."
Bo
Buckley, HHU
friend, reminded us
that his anthology film, "Death4Told," is
nearing completion. Starring Margo Kidder (no
kidding!) and the lovely Tom Savini, progress of the film can be monitored through their
website. Here's
the latest from Bo on some cool news:
Hey guys,
Just letting you
know that my feature film, Death4Told, is gracing the cover of Sirens of Cinema
magazine and is on newsstands around the country now. The article talks a bit
about our film, but mostly focuses on two of our actresses, Margot Kidder and
Alicia Goranson.
This is some good
press for us and should help land that elusive distribution deal. We've found
most issues at Barnes & Noble but I've heard they've popped up elsewhere. If
you see an issue, check it out. Or you can check it out online at www.sirensofcinema.com.
Just go to Latest Issue.
If anyone has an
inside track to other horror related mags, let me know.
We could certainly
use all the press we can get. I also want to publically thank George (a.k.a.
Crazy Willie) for taking over my market. He's a good guy and absolutely LOVES
this stuff. I'll be moving to NC in less than a year and a couple movies and two
more scripts have slammed me with work.
I'll try to continue
to do some shows when I can.
Bo
Carpathian
and the Patient Creatures ,
friends of
the Underground, just complete their 4th (and final?) short, "Knife In
The Grave," (which features fellow creatures, Cousin
Grim and Kuzibah, in cameos) and are
busy debuting it across the country at various conventions
and personal appearances.
Doc Gangrene
has been busy working with "Ghost Ship Films"
playing the lead demon, "Xorto" on the low
budget flick "Demon Sight" (see
production pics here), and reports his
"Chiller Cinema" partner, Chuck, has recently
finished a new Zombie short.

And, as if that
weren't enough, we got the following cool news about Tennessee's cool dude:
Last
summer a group of filmmakers came to town and shot Doc Gangrene hosting their
movie. It's kind of a weird movie, the Doc doing his usual thing and hosting a
movie about a rock band out of Chattanooga TN called the Unsatisfied. It isn't
fiction, it's a rockumentary, so with my bits thrown in it is all sort of
surreal. I break in every so often to throw in some comments about the band,
etc.
Anyway, the movie
is starting to get a bit of attention lately. Joe Bob reviewed it, as did a
bunch of other reviewers. Some liked my bits, others hated it. Oh well - You
can see more about it at www.newplanetpictures.com
- The movie is called Ambition Withdraw.
Oh, and I have IMDB
credits now too, thanks to this film and the Ghostship one I shot
earlier this year... Very cool.
Dr. Shock is
also really busy with releasing his film work on a major
scale:
Dr. Shock's Tales of Terror is
being released by BRAIN DAMAGE FILMS / MAXIM MEDIA for U.S.
and Canadian distribution. August 12th is the street date.
Newly produced SHOCK host segments were produced and the
addition of another film was added (BULLET FOR A VAMPIRE).
Quite a different version than what has been available at
the conventions and in the UK through CRYPTKEEPER
FILMS.
The DVD will have commentary, photo gallery,
behind the scenes and outtakes. This DVD should find it's
way onto the shelves at BLOCKBUSTER, FAMILY VIDEO, MOVIE
GALLERY ect.... DR. SHOCK'S SCARY STORIES is now done the 2
films on this follow-up are BULLET FOR A VAMPIRE and THE
DEAD & BREAKFAST.

for the cool promo.
Dr.
Shock's scary stories will soon be relesed in the UK the
films on this will be BULLET FOR A VAMPIRE and THE DEAD
& BREAKFAST.
Ghoul A Go Go,
the guys behind the
kid show satire,
let us know at the 2003 Monster Bash convention about the recent film release,
"It's A Haunted Happening," featuring cameos
by them and their little show. Check out the recently
released DVD
here.
Halloween
Jack, the Hardest
Working Host on Television, told us that he is finally
taking some time off from doing the prolific "Haunted
Theatre" to film his feature debut with his cast and
crew. Having finally worked out the perfect script,
they are working on the financing and the casting
and hope to be done by October of this year, when they
return to the studio for the next season of their show.
Professor
Griffin from "The Midnight Shadow Show" is busy
in post production on very ambitious professional
project "The Legend of Ghostwolf's Gold,"
a supernatural western. Griff co-produced the film and
has a featured cameo. The film should be finished by the new
year, and will quickly be on video shelves everywhere.
Remo-D
let us know about his work, "The Wooden Gate,"
where he recently cast Jim Van Bebber,
director of "Deadbeat At Dawn" and the upcoming
"Charlie's Family."
What an amazing shoot we had (especially when we
were denied our location of choice almost literally at the
last minute and had to improvise). Wait till you see Jim in
character... he did his own makeup (muttonchop sideburns and
all) and spared nothing in his assault on my character (I'm
almost-but-not-quite playing myself as a TV personality
running an "Unsolved Mysteries" sort of show).
Took some good hard slaps across the face (the first of
which I honestly wasn't expecting). Had my head bashed in
with a 35mm camera (that was staged, but at one point Jim
thought for sure he had really hit me with it). Got flung
down a hill... lay face down in the dirt for twenty minutes
as Jim triumphantly trampled me... But hey--Jim can take it
as well as he dishes it out.
Uncle
Ghoulie, from Horror
Incorporated, in an interesting twist of things is busy working
on a film titled "Ghoulie A-Go-Go!"
I
don't want to give TOO much away -- rest assured, most
of it will not take place on the same set, anyway!
And there'll be all sorts of things we can't do on
television, like sex, violence, profanity, nudity --
basically the only reason I go to see a movie anyway . .
. Remember, my goal IS to make the ultimate
cult/midnight movie! Oh yeah, and LOTS of slams at
George Lucas.
They are far from
the only ones doing this, however. From the people behind
"Shock Theatre with Dr. Creep," to the gang behind
"The Spooky Movie," not to mention little old
Dr. Freak (who we now hear cusses!) or HHU's North
Carolina sponsor, Dan Johnson, there seems to be a flurry
across the nation from Hosts to create new films to host.
WE BETTER GET CREDITS
ON IMDB - Speaking of Halloween
Jack (which I was), good ol' HJ has just hipped us to the
fact that the HHU will be featured on a brand new Indie
film! Here's Evan's message to me:
I
got a call from my local comic shop yesterday. Seems that
Robert Ferreri, who I interviewed on my "KIller Shrews"
episode, and who is currently completing his film "Camp
Dead," was at the shop selling a short DVD he had
made entitled "Casting Bruce Campbell."

The
whole thing was shot at the 2002 Horrorfind convention
with the help of my Haunted Theatre crew and features
cameo's by Dr. Creep, A. Ghastlee Ghoul and Halloween
Jack. He even gives the HHU a shout out on the back of
the DVD.
This is REALLY, REALLY,
REALLY cool! Our very own shout-out on the back of a DVD
box! For more information about them, please check
out their official website here.
