THE 2007 SPOOKY MOVIE FILM FESTIVAL is proud to announce the U.S. Theatrical Premiere of the Japanese thriller CARVED: THE SLIT-MOUTHED WOMAN as its Closing Night feature. Inspired by the popular Japanese urban legend of "Kuchisake Onna (a.k.a. The Slit Mouthed Woman)," director Kojo Shiraishi (NOROI THE CURSE and DEAD GIRL WALKING) has created "The most frightening supernatural horror film of the year," according to reviewer William. P. Simmons: "More disturbing than a traditional ghost yarn!”

Thirty years ago, a suburban town was terrorized by the spirit of a woman whose beautiful face had been grotesquely disfigured by a jealous husband. Roaming the streets wearing a long coat and surgical mask, the spirit would approach young victims and, while removing her mask, ask "Am I pretty?" The victim's response would almost always lead to their violent death. Now, one by one, children are disappearing again. As teachers and officials desperately begin to investigate, a panic begins to build as the woman's spirit returns for some unfinished business and the town's dark secrets are exposed.

"Shiraishi gets a lot of mileage out of his classically eerie villain: with her surgical mask and bloody scissors, the 'slit-mouthed woman' imbues every frame she's in with menace," wrote Jim Hemphill for Reel.com.

CARVED: THE SLIT-MOUTHED WOMAN will close THE 2007 SPOOKY MOVIE FILM FESTIVAL on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax, Virginia, and will help mark the Japanese and domestic release of the movie on DVD.
