A Wish For All Horses
Twas the night before Christmas
And all throught the stable,
Not a creature was stirring;
Or so says the fable.

In truth, they'd all gathered
Around the last stall door,
To be with the young mare
All sweaty and sore.

This was her first foal
Or so they'd been told,
And each had a wish
For the life to unfold.

The old mare leaned over,
And nuzzled her cheek.
And wished for a healthy foal,
Well-formed, and sleek.

The caring gelding nickered
And pawed at the ground.
And wished that the newborn
be gentle and sound.

The stallion was last
With his usual fire.
He was gentle and calm
As he wished his desire.
That the foal always be cared for
With the greatest of love.
A father's wish
Truly from heaven above.

Then, panting and heaving,
A small hoof did appear.
Then a fetlock, a knee,
A nose, and an ear.

And with one last great push,
The new life met the world.
And each of the wishes
Like banners unfurled.

It was a healthy foal.
Well-formed and sleek.
Gentle and tender
And loving and meek.

And with mother and father
Both standing by.
It was greeted by the most loving faces.
All quiet and shy.
