...Quick History continued     Man o' War was first at stud in 1921 as a private stallion. But from 1922-1924, he was offered publicly at a $2,500 fee. After these years, his stud fee increased to $5,000. He was limited to 25 mares/year, most of which were Riddle's own mares. At the age of 26, Man o' War had a heart attack and was retired from breeding. He died on November 1, 1947 at the age of 30. In his years of breeding, he was a stud for 22 seasons, siring 379 named foals, 64 becoming stakes winners. His two most notable sons are War Admiral (Triple Crown winner 1937) and War Relic, both of which became excellenct sires themselves. Horses with lines to Man o' War include Kelso (5 times Horse of the Year), Buckpasser (1966 Horse of the Year), Hail to All (1965 Belmont winner), Forego (1974-1976 Horse of the Year), Seattle Slew (Triple Crown winner), Affirmed (Triple Crown winner), and John Henry ( 1981 Horse of the Year). ************************************************************************************** Quick Stats: Jet Run      Jet Run and rider Michael Matz together won the first U.S.E.T. Open Jumping Championship 1981. In addition, the pair placed first in the 1981 F.E.I. World Cup competition in Birmingham, England, the Individual Gold Medal in 1979 at the Pan-American Games (Puerto Rico), and leading international rider at the 1979 National Horse Show (Madison Square Garden).
