SIX WAYS TO CONTROL AN ATTACK

  1. MANIPULATION OF THE JOINTS
    This involves the maneuvering and proper positioning of joints, as well as strikes to the joints.
  2. CONTROLLING THE MUSCLES
    This principle involves applying pressure to the different muscle groups in order to help maneuver the attacker. The pressure applied to the muscle is produced in three different ways:
    TWISTING the muscle!
    STRIKING the muscle!
    GRABBING and SQUEEZING the muscle!
  3. REGULATING THE BREATHING
    This principle is divided into two methods of control:
    RESTRICTING THE AIR FLOW ( Restricting how much air the attacker is allowed to take in or release while breathing );
    CUTTING OFF ALL AIR ( Cutting off all air which may be trying to enter or leave the lungs )
  4. RESTRICTING THE BLOOD
    This principle involves restraining the blood flow from an artery or vein. In Hosin-Sul techniques, the practitioner will be trying to achieve one or more of the three main objectives of this principle:
    Induce the attacker to become weak and incoherent;
    Render the attacker unconscious;
    Terminate the attacker (used as a last resort only).
  5. DIRECTION OF FORCE
    Direction of force refers to the direction an object or form of power is moving toward you, and how to neutralize the power or force so it will not cause damage to you.
  6. BODY REACTION
    Body reaction is how the attacker's body will react to the pulling, twisting, pushing, pressure, and blows you will exert against different parts of his body.
