Boyd Jarvis by Boyd Jarvis
I was always enthusiastic about synthesizers an have looked up to
musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Chic Corea, George Duke, Tomita, who
I consider my mentors. In 1981 I bought my first synthesizer which was a
Yamaha CS-15 which is equipped with two oscillators, two envelope
generators a white noise source. I did everything with this one machine
for a long time until I could afford more synths. I used to carry my
synth to Brownsville Brooklyn to Tony Humphries house to overdub mixes.
I used to carry it in a US canvas postal bag. I first took my
synthesizer to a club that I used to work at called Melons where I used
to decorate. The DJ was Derrick Davidson the crowd was blown away.
That is where I met Timmy Regisford who heard me play. He told me that he had an audition for WBLS radio, and he would like me to overdub the set, so I complied and that was basically where my music career began. Out of hooking up one of the first original tracks that I created for the radio show was "One love" instrumental and then "The Music Got Me"
instrumental which was known as "Stomp", which eventually became The
Music Got Me. After the instrumental to those two cuts were made and
we got so much of a good response from the audience we decided to take
the tracks down to a club called Better Days. We play One love the dance floor was empty and when the track came on the crowd stormed the dance floor and that was a sign that we had something happening. So we proceeded to Prelude Records and played the tracks for Marvin Schlachter and told him of the responses that we were getting from the radio audience he was game and gave me my first record contract. Because of the radio show and those tracks Timmy and I began to get a lot of remix work as Partners. I was one of the first guys to discover and expose
Colonel Abrams, Tammy Lucas of Hey Boy, Bille of Nobody's Business. A
lot of these tracks were created in Timmy's bedroom as well as the mix
shows for the radio sets Timmy had the technics reel to reel and a
couple of technics turn tables along with a bosac mixer .
I will never forget how excited we were when we finished a show. How we
used to stay up after leaving the Garage and do the shows then wait to here them either Sunday afternoon or Friday and Saturday nights, Great memories and moments in time. Not actually realizing that we were making history.

The name of the LP escapes me so I'll have to get back to you on that. Anyway the original is an accapella. It's a spoken word piece about 4 or 5 min. with no instrumentation. Bobby Kondors uses only a small piece of it. Also, the flute solo on Joe's remix was done by Boyd Jarvis, a legend in his own right. He was Timmy Regisford's (The Shelter) keyboardist when Timmy was doing his Mastermixes for WBLS in the early 80's & helped define Garage during that time with his many collaborations with Timmy (Visual, Colonel Abrams) and others. I hope this helps. Thanks & I just want to say that you have the best site on the net for Garage Headz. Peace. Regards, Tony
Hello Jahsonic
First of all I would like to thank you very much for having information
about my history on your web site. Again thank you, but unfortunately
the information is extremely incorrect.
No offense to you, I am getting a bit tired of the misrepresentation
that I have been seeing on the internet overall not just your site but
many many others, and I would just like if I may, to help to clear up
the misrepresentation by providing you with some of the correct data.
Straight from the man himself Boyd Jarvis "That's Me"
I have been seeing everything from I was timmy's Keyboardist to I
played
a solo on this or that etc. etc.
First of all Timmy and I were Partners in the business we have done
Many Many Many mixes together as a matter of fact we entered the
business together! We started out doing the radio show for W.B.L.S
together and because of the radio shows began to generate numerous
jobs
remixing records.
Most of the Production that I did with Timmy were more than likely
Produced and performed by Timmy & me. not just solo's mind you entire
productions.
Most sessions that I have done with Joe Clausell "Not all but most"
were
more than likely Produced and or recorded in my personal studio and in
most cases, I more than likely played most of the instruments and mixed
and recorded them with Joe Claussell. As far as Muta Baruka is concern
It was recorded in my Home Studio And every Instrument except some
Percussion's. I played composed and performed remixed etc.
And by the way we have done a few! and occasionally Joe hires me as
keyboardist to play on some of his independent projects.
Francois Kevorkian
One Of my first experiences with Francois was playing on
Wild style By Time zone
Lets start to dance by Bohannon

Please pass this data on as much as you can, it will be highly
appreciated and would help greatly to clear up some of the
misinformation that is floating around. This Info is just partial
If you are interested in more info or Bios feel free to contact me.
Following this letter will be a partial breakdown and discography
