The Saskatoon Rabbit Mafia

It all began innocently enough but what began as simple Easter Bunnies as presents for Easter 1994 was the beginnings for the Saskatoon Rabbit Mafia family. Succumbing to my then girlfriend's desire for a bunny, I purchased her a baby rabbit (or kit) who would grow to be the mob boss, Pipkin. He was so adorable that my girlfriend got me Fiver right then and there. Unlike the timid rabbit character in Watership Down for whom he is named, this Fiver is a feisty and determined little scrapper. Pipkin was named for another character. They soon showed their true nature as they began to conspire against me and started a reign of terror that would stretch through the yard and into the neighbour's garden. Last year, a new member, Mocha, a known and proven escape artist, joined the family. She is always looking for ways in and out of places, often finding routes before I can.

Here are my favourite rabbit pages. They have a wealth of information and are excellent.

House Rabbit Society - National Website

A North American organization dedicated towards public education and permanent adoption of House Rabbits. Their site is a wealth of rabbit information that includes care, finding a vet (they maintain a rabbit vet list) and so on. Information searches are easy with their index and search page. One of their major annual campaigns is educating people (parents and children alike) that Easter and Bunnies do NOT mix.

Dr. Dana Krempels
Dana Krempels is heavily involved in Rabbit Rescue and South Florida HRS. She is also the listowner for EtherBun, an email list concerning topics of rabbit care. Her pages of photos of her own bunnies and other related rabbit stuff are really quite spectacular (see Dana's Bunlink)

Laura Tessmer (aka PetBunny Princess)
Laura is very knowledgeable about rabbits especially when it comes to nutrition . Her site has a large collection of excellent rabbit care related articles written by herself and others. These articles are well worth downloading and reading. Her Rabbit Nutrition Homepage and Index has many of these articles plus others organized by topic. She is also co-listowner of PetBunny, another (more social) email list for rabbits.

Rabbits Articles and Information

While the decision to purchase Fiver and Pipkin was not a snap decision, it wasn't really until December of that same year that I started looking seriously for information pertaining to care of rabbits. And there was a lot out there and much of it did conflicting. By the summer of 1995, we had broken up and I had inherited both rabbits. I was also subscribed to an email list, PetBunny, for rabbit owners (aka Bunny Slaves). And my exploration of the net began.

There was tons of information available and often at odds. So I began to collect bits and pieces from here and there to compile my own set of files and information. I have begun to assemble them into a series of articles dealing with issues I see frequently raised on the Bunny list I subscribe to.

However, even I initially thought that I could make up my own set up on articles of information on rabbit care, I have come to realize that it is too big of a project given all my other projects and work. So I have provided links to sites with information that I consider to be top notch and very reliable. Strangely enough, all those sites are already listed above in my hot links.
