ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced today that Zack's Run, an annual running event to benefit the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis, will be held on Sunday, November 1 in Atlantic City. The event is expected to attract hundreds of runners as well as local politicians and professional athletes, including ex-quarterback great Boomer Esiason and ex-Philadelphia Eagle Dave Rimington. The event will begin (and end) at Maloney's Restaurant in Margate, New Jersey and continue along the shore's famous boardwalk. Start time for the 4-mile race and 2-mile walk/fun run will be 9:30 a.m. Boomer Esiason, now a commentator for ABC's Monday Night Football, will be the Starter for this year's race. Those interested in participating in the run, attending the post-race brunch, or contributing to the cause should contact Zack Subin at 609-823-2363 or write him at 7 Bayshore Ct., Margate, NJ 08402.

This year's event, sponsored by Affiliated Business Systems, a local subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., and Sci-Clone Pharmaceuticals, a leader in genetic research based in California, represents the fourth annual run to benefit Cystic Fibrosis.

Zack's Run is the brainchild of Zack Subin, a 17-year-old Atlantic City high school student from Margate, New Jersey whose impetus for establishing the run came from two cousins who suffered from Cystic Fibrosis. "I wanted to create an event that would help raise money for CF research while increasing the awareness of this dreadful disease," said Zack Subin in a recent interview. "Thanks to the efforts of dozens of volunteers, our sponsors and the participating runners, we hope to raise more than $25,000 at this year's event," Mr. Subin added. (The previous three events generated $40,000 in charitable funds from his efforts.)

"ABS/Canon is excited and honored to be associated with Zack's Run," said Nelson Remetz, Spokesman at Affiliated Business Systems, a subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc. "The event is a great opportunity for us to help raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis in a community where we live and conduct business."

"Sci-Clone Pharmaceutical applauds Zack's efforts to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis," said Shawn Singh, senior vice president at Sci-Clone Pharmaceuticals. "We are completely dedicated to the research needed to find a cure for this disease."

"Zack has my heartfelt thanks and applause for his efforts to raise money for the BEF and increase the awareness of Cystic Fibrosis in his community," said Boomer Esiason. "With continued support from our corporate sponsors and the efforts of volunteers like Zack, we will continue to move one step closer to finding a cure."

Cystic Fibrosis is a fatal genetic disorder that affects over 30,000 Americans, usually the most vulnerable among us -- our children. This terrible disease is marked by chronic infections, clogged airways, and digestive and reproductive problems.

The Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) is a dynamic partnership of leaders in the medical and business communities joining with a committed core of volunteers to heighten awareness, education and quality of life for those affected by Cystic Fibrosis, while providing financial support to research aimed at finding a cure.
