Nervine....


Proven, besides the cats like it.
Yes, my products are animal approved.
They work for children, too, in reduced amounts.

2 parts Red clover
1 part Catnip
1 part Skullcap
1/4 part Valerian Root, ground

blend well and/or grind in coffee grinder.(or food processor)
Put in "00" gelatin caps.
Take as needed...most likely one hour before bed.
Adds fiber. Non-drowsy if desired to take during waking hours.

This may also be macerated in grain alcohol for two weeks. Triple filter (I use unbleached coffee filters) bottle and label. 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in HOT water will help you sleep.
Take at bedtime.

Sinus Infection?

This is NOT a cure!
Formulated to assist your own defenses

2 parts Echinacea root, ground
1 part Goldenseal, powdered

Mix well and fill "0" gel caps.
Take 1 or 2, 3 times a day for 5 days. Then stop for 4 days. If symptoms persist, restart for another 5 days. I can usually tell when they are not needed any longer when I can taste the Echinacea as the caps break in the stomach. Tastes like dirt.
Please. If symptoms do NOT cease, see your physician. Nothing takes the place of an educated source when it comes to your health.

equal parts
Copal
Lavender flower



Homemade vegetarian suet and seed to invite color and song to your window.

1/2 cup of Extra crunchy peanut butter. Not the real cheap kind.
(If you don't eat it, neither will they)
1/2 cup bird seed. Mix well. If you have a leftover form from the last suet you bought, they recycle WELL for this project. Place in the freezer over night, or at least an hour, remove from form and place in your Suet feeder.
This adds the extra fat they will need during the coldest part of the year.

Or if you don't mind using animal fat....go to the grocery store when they are cutting meat (it is best to get it fresh) and ask for tallow. Suet is the fat around the kidney, and Tallow works just as well. Wash the fat and cut any excess meat off. Place in large Dutch Oven with water and cook till fat is liquified. Let this cool, then skim off the fat and gently reheat to get rid of the water. Mix with seed and place in form. Freeze overnight and present it to the birds the next day.
If you have a motar and pestle and eat eggs ....dry the shells and grind them. add this to you suet mixture to add calcium to the birds diet. This will help strengthen their shells. This is important for people living near farmlands that spray with pesticides.

A Relaxing Tea


Equal parts, or thereabouts of:
red clover
chamomile
jasmine flower
lavender flower
lemon balm

Mix together well. Gather herbs in a tea ball or spoon one tablespoon per cup into a teapot. (Make sure to rinse the teapot with HOT water first) Pour boiling water over the herbs and let steep three to five minutes. Soothing and calming. Good for any upsets and immediate bad news. Helps one to calm down after an irratic day. Honey to sweeten and taste.

Mulling Spices

cinnamon
clove
allspice
orange peel
star anise
bay leaf (1 small)

wrap spices in cheesecloth or tea ball. simmer tea or grog gently.
strain and serve.
also makes a nice potpourri on stove top. :-) or an incense.

Beef Jerky
For those of us who DO eat meat and this is the best way to take it camping with you so you don't have to take the wildlife.

I use Sirloin or London Broil and in some instances whatever I find on the reduced counter.
Wash meat under cool running water and pat dry. Slice into thin strips and/or chunks. The strips I use for snacking while the chunks I use in stews.
I recommend glass or steel containers to use for marinade. Plastic will work but NOT aluminum.
Put all meat into marinade and cover. Set in refridgerator for two or three days stirring at least once a day.
Line your dehydrator plates with meat, not touching and bake for 10-16 hours turning once. (time depends on thickness of strips)

1st recipe:
One bottle of A-1 sauce
Two hefty shots of good whiskey. (yes it's for the meat!)

put 1/4 part of whiskey in bottle and shake to thin the sauce. Pour into marinade dish, pour rest of whiskey into bottle and shake, add to marinade.
2nd recipe
any favorite package of meat marinade. I like mesquite. follow directions above.
