Accredited Programs

There are many residency programs in the USA. If your aim is to complete one that will allow you to sit for the specialty board of your choice, you must make sure that the program you choose is accredited by the board.

To get a list of the accredited programs in the USA see the Graduate Medical Directory . Also known as the Green Book , the Directory is updated annually and contains a list of the programs in the States along with the names and mailing addresses of the program directors. Applications should be sent out as early as possible , usually by late August . It is important to choose an accredited program for only then will the Specialist board allow you to sit for the Postgraduate Board examinations. The Green book can usually be found in the nearest USIS, your medical school library or can be ordered from:
