The Workshop
was extremely informative.
The main points of interest were:
- Multiple myeloma is not an incurable disease in all patients. It seems that 1 in 5
patients can achieve a long term remission after receiving high dose chemotherapy. This is
good news indeed!
- It seems Thalidomide may induce remission in selective patients.
- Most important is that the immune based therapies are gaining momentum. These will be
the source of the cure for Multiple myeloma in my opinion.
- The is the Multiple Myeloma research foundation and the International Myeloma foundation
working full-time to raise funds for research. PLEASE SUPPORT THESE EFFORTS AS MUCH AS
POSSIBLE.
- We hope to change the focus from finding a cure for MM to that of a chronic disease.
- One maybe two viruses are involved in MM. More researchers than ever before are working
in the MM field. They are supported financially by the two foundations and it is
imperative that we support there efforts. Keep well my friends and don't forget to smell
the roses...
