Follow-up medical care

You will probably be advised to set up an appointment with your pediatrician or family doctor within the first two weeks after the surgery. Ensure that this doctors receives a report on your child's hospital stay, including details of the surgery, any medications given, any blood transfusions, or other important medical information.

The neurosurgeon may want to see your baby about six weeks to three months after the surgery. He will monitor the regrowth of the bone, and will take measurements of the head in several dimensions. He will probably also ask some questions regarding your child's development and may check his or her vision.

The neurosurgeon may ask for follow up visits every six months to a year for the next couple years.
