The Scar

The scars are big, but fade well in such young babies. Once his hair grows in and gets to a normal thickness, they won't be noticeable even when the hair is wet.

Some hospitals suggest the use of Polysporin or another topical antibacterial ointment to promote healing of the scar and to prevent infection. This was prescribed for our son but not for our daughter, and neither developed infections or other problems with scar healing.

If the scars remain visible even once the child has a full head of hair, there are procedures that can be done to improve the appearance. These are usually done around 12 years old, once your child has done most of his growing. These are minor plastic surgical procedures, that are done on an outpatient basis.
