Please keep this section of the newsletter so you can use it as a reference.
Due to personal problems Mike Spainhower has stepped down as Communication Specialist and Mike Gorgas has agreed to take on this very difficult and time consuming task.
Also please note that JoAnn Bishop (that’s right –it’s Bill’s mom) has agreed to also take on the difficult and time consuming task of Training Officer.
Thanks to both of you and thanks to all the members on the Executive Board- We all have full time jobs and still we must find the many hours that it takes to keep this team active and a Level 1. On that note- please become more active on your team. Share your talents with us. We need more communication guys/girls, web masters, etc. Call one of the Ex Members above and offer your help.
Please remember to promote our team to friends and co-workers and interest them in joining. They may call Judy for orientation information.
Remember
to visit our website WWW.FL2DMAT
or http://www.oocities.org/HotSprings/7093
Please not e: everyone needs to know the location of our warehouse facility, Bill Vernay North American Van Lines. This is where the team will meet and deploy from. During our busiest times of trying to get deployed, a few people were calling to find out where the warehouse was located.
Take a test run to reduce your anxiety in finding it.

As many of you will remember during your orientation dues are a part of your membership to the team. It is $20.00 annually and due in Jan. You have had a little reprieve since the newsletter is late going out…so your credit cards from Christmas purchases should be paid off. Haha. Many of you neglected to pay last year. Make your check out to: FL 2 DMAT.
Please send it ASAP to Connie Bowles 1153 SE 32nd Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33904. Paying dues is part of your agreement to be a member of FL 2 DMAT. This small amount of monies pays for food, drinks, and misc during exercises. Our equipment is supplied by the Feds but the misc. expense, which is the only working capital we have, comes from dues.
Only members who have paid their annual dues will be allowed to deploy.
Please note-
Starting next year if the dues are late and late meaning Feb 2, 2003 you are indicating that you do not desire to be an active member of the team. ….

If you have furthered your education and may be entitled to an upgrade in the GS scale please call me to discuss the upgrade. ie- LPN to RN.
WORLD TRADE CENDER
DEPLOYMENT
As most of you know FL 2 DMAT was in NYC in Sept 2001 for a 10 day deployment. The experiences of the members will live on with them for their lifetime. For those who could not make the trip we know your prayers were with us and we took you along in our hearts.
Note: Regarding the salary pay issue on this deployment I have received a copy of each deploying team members statement and all hours worked were paid. Some members received one or two checks or direct deposits depending upon the person working at the gov’t agency. If you still do not think you were paid adequately please call me-and we will go over the information I received. Some complications were that you may have changed banks or addresses etc and forgot to report that to me during the earlier stages of the deployment when we asked these questions.

As you are reading this, we will be in Salt Lake City. We are proud and honored to be representing FL 2 DMAT at the winter games. We will receive our assignment and work schedule when we get there. We do know that we will be stationed in Sat Lake City and working the usual 12-hour shifts, the other 12 hours we will be on call and need to respond within 30 minutes.
We will have the team digital camera with us so that we can play show and tell when we return home. Keep the home fires burning and we will see you when we get home.
Joyce Mason
Note:
This five member task force will be leaving February 14 and return 25th.
Our Unit Commander-Gary was chosen by NDMS to act as liaison to the DMAT teams there- he left Feb 2 and will stay the entire month.
Regarding the decision on the members who were chosen to represent FL 2 DMAT..the current point system was used to choose the five member team. These members represent the epitome of dedicated members who attend exercises, deploy with the team and do other non visible work to keep the team functioning. Please see the information regarding the new point system in the below article. This starts everyone out on the same level every two years and prevents the accumulation of points that would lead to same people receiving special assignments. This way no one will be able to complain. If you attend the meeting, exercises, pay dues etc you will be able to receive all the benefits the team provides.
Connie
The Executive Committee met on January 14, after much discussion and debate a new point system was designed. The committee and members wanted a more equitable method of acquiring training points. The following criteria was agreed upon:
EVENT POINTS
State Training 5
Local Training 4
Team Seminars 3
Local Events 2 (health fairs, parades)
Deployment 1
General Meetings 3 (max 12 a year)
Executive Meetings 1 (max 12 a year)
Training Modules 1 (computer)
Membership Dues 2 (paid before March 1)
Independent Training 1 (per day: work related)
Conferences 1 (per day)
· Every two years, beginning January 1, 2002, all previous points accumulated, will be erased. (We ALL start with a clean slate).
· Deployment assignments will go to those having the most points in their area of expertise.
NDMS REQUIREMENT TO STAY ACTIVE ON A DMAT TEAM IS REQUIRING EACH TEAM MEMBER TO COMPLETE TRAINING MODULES ON THE WEB
To access training modules on the internet go to http://ndms.umbc.edu/instructions.asp
If you attend a conference or participate in training or job related activities and think they will qualify for points, bring or send a copy of the syllabus or certificate to the next meeting.
As your training officer I hope to have several team
seminars each year, I’m trying to find a class room to have a computer class
for those of us needing help with the internet training, If you have any ideas please let me know. Joann Bishop, ARNP
