80 women violated, 164 killed in April
Country's law and order situation deteriorated further in April in comparison with that of
the previous month.
Some 80 women and children were violated in April, showing an increase of 6.6 per cent
than that of March, according to a report of the Institute of Democratic Rights (IDR).
Of the victims, 22 are between 3 and 10 years of age, 32 between 11 and 20 years, 12 above
20 years and 14 others of different ages. Twenty-one were gang-raped.
IDR, a legal and human rights organisation, prepared the report on the basis of newspaper
reports. It said the actual figure might be bigger as many incidents do not come to press.
The number of other crimes reported are: 43 kidnappings, 19 dowry victims, 10 acid
throwing incidents and 49 suicides.
