Before you use a product on your natural hair, first rub it into your fingers and into the back of your hand. If it feels tacky, sticky or does not disappear quickly into the back of your hand, you do not want this in your hair!
I have heard it said that it does not matter what you put in your hair as long as it is natural. This is very, very bad advice. Eggs, honey, beeswax, lanolin and shea butter are "all natural" products but will cause your scalp to produce too much oil and then flake. They will also cause your hair to be sticky, attract lint, and look dull! The best products for your hair are those that are light, contain no alcohol, wash out easily and leave no film when your hair is wet. Happy Locking!
For those of you who want neatly placed locks, try using clips to hold your hair down while it is wet. It will set the newly twisted roots well and leave the locks neat looking after they are dry. Also with clips you have the option of not using any additive such as gel to hold the lock. And FYI, clips in the beauty supply store cost (in most cases) $.99 for 20 clips. Don't spend outrages amounts of money for clips. They are all the same (though some may be heavier) but no one should pay more than a dollar per pack of 20. Happy Locking!
