WHAT IS FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY
Forensic Psychology is a relatively new branch of Psychology.  It deals with the application of Psychology to legal issues and the Criminal Justice System.

Areas that Forensic Psychology look at include Psychology and Law,  Victims of Crime,  Psychology of Policing,  Criminology and Psychology,  Law Enforcement and the Assessment and Treatment of both Juvenile and Adult offenders (this includes mentally disordered offenders).

Forensic Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists who specialise in Forensic Psychology may be employed in the Prison Service (HMP),  Special Hospitals (NHS -Maximum Secure Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals) and Secure Units (NHS and Private,  medium and low secure forensic psychiatric units).  Forensic Psychologists provide psychological assessments and treatments (therapies) in such settings.

Forensic Psychologists work also includes appearing as an Expert Witness in court proceeding,  work in conjunction with the Police Service (ie offender profiling , etc) and work in Academic settings to carry out research.
