The Dublin Women's Mini Marathon

I'm walking in the Dublin Women's Mini Marathon on the 11th June to put my pump to the test and to raise money for Insulin Pumpers.

Find out more about my marathon preparations.

Diabetes resources

The Diabetes Federation of Ireland contains a number of interesting diabetes links, information on activities around Ireland and membership information.

Diabetes Insight is full of up-to-date information and articles about diabetes.  It will also provide you with information on how to subscribe to support@diabetic.org.uk, a UK-based mailing list that has provided me with advice, support, and friendship for over a year.  Highly recommended!

Insulin Pumpers UK provides information, support and educational materials to people with diabetes, their families, and medical professionals.

Pump propaganda After barely two years on multiple daily injections, I'm ready for something better.  An insulin pump should provide me with more flexibility and better control than I have now.  This is the start of my quest for a pump.

UPDATE On 31 January 2000 my new diabetes clinic approved me for a pump and I will begin a trial in March 2000.

The Glycaemic Index The glycaemic index can help you make food choices that make your diabetes management easier. Rick Mendosa is one of the leading exponents of the index and his sites discuss the index in detail.

Who am I?  Elizabeth OShea works as a writer, and spends a lot of time on voluntary activity. Most of this activity is now focused on diabetes.  She was diagnosed as having type I diabetes on 30 December 1997, two weeks after arriving in San Francisco, where she had gone for an adventure.  And what an adventure it was!  She tends to be zealous in her approach to diabetes, but her message is simple:  your doctor doesn't know everything, so you better find out for yourself and you do not have to get complications!
