BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
AUGUST 27, 1999

Meeting called to order by President Bruce C. at 9:05 AM and the agenda was presented.

ROLL CALL - MEMBERS PRESENT:

MINUTES:

The minutes from the June 25th, 1999 BOD Meeting were approved.

TREASURERS REPORT:

Frank reported. The Treasures report was approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

a.) Publication Committee: Shane reported. The last newsletter was late due to an error at the Printers. The deadline for the next Inspiration is Sept. 7th. Several BOD members will write articles for the next newsletter. Mike will submit an application for officers also.

b.) Membership: Bruce C. reported. There were 59 new members last year for a total membership of 440. Ideas were discussed to continue to increase membership, and all were asked to think about more ways to encourage membership.

c.) Nominations-Elections: Mike Stoakes reported. Mike presented a sample of the application for office. His goal is to have at least two candidates for each office.

d.) Program/Education: Lori Ellis presented information on an educational conference that Apria is sponsoring on Oct. 19th, 1999.
She reported that they would like to do this annually or every other year.
Melody reported on the State Meeting. She has her planning committee in place, and is beginning to line up speakers. There was discussion on ways to increase the Sputum Bowl participation. The dates are May 10,11, and 12, 2000.

e.) Legislative/Bylaws: Marcy reported. Marcy presented a survey of Affiliates Meetings. She reported on the Medication Aide Bill.
The Muse Report was discussed.

f.) Public Relations: Linda T. reported. The Bob Gibson Classic was a success. Respiratory Care Week will be celebrated in Omaha on Thursday Oct. 7th, with a city wide celebration. This is an annual event in Omaha, and will be tried for the first time in Lincoln this year.
Ideas to increase public relations were discussed by the BOD, and the AARC is checking into the expense of a Public Service Announcement.
Bruce A. reported on the Web site and the CEU program.

OLD BUSINESS:

a.) Grass Roots effort: Bruce C. and Shane reported. They suggest having the BOD sign a letter written to our senators regarding the Muse Study. The BOD agreed and the letters were signed. article on the Muse They suggested we develop a Call/Alert Tree for all RCP's in the state, to respond to upcoming issues. It was suggested that the Director's take on this project. They will put a request for email addresses in the next newsletter. It was suggested that the Public Relations committee, the Director's, the Publication committee, and the Membership committee work together on this issue. A motion was passed to develop a communication network with NSRC members using an email or phone number tree to facilitate communication of professional issues.

b.) Professionalism at Meetings: Bruce C. reported that he visited SECC and stressed the importance of Professionalism. He said it went well. Bruce suggested that a member of the BOD do this at each of the schools.

c.) Citizens for a Healthier Nebraska Update: Marcy reported See attached. Marcy asked the BOD to review the report and requested that we make a decision at the November BOD meeting.

d.) Delegates report: Will report in November.

NEW BUSINESS:

a.) Polysomnographer Issues: Marcy provided the BOD with a background on this issue. The BOD was introduced to John May, Leigh Heithoff, and Deb Bailey, representatives from BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. They are here to ask for the support of the NSRC in obtaining an exemption to the RCP license for Polysomnographers. The BOD asked to be provided with any letters of support they have, and any additional information about how this issue is handled in other parts of the U.S.
The BOD will discuss this with their Medical Director, and give them an answer by the end of the year.

b.) Other: The AARC is interested in knowing if there is any interest from the Affiliates for carrying a liability insurance product, to cover affiliates at their State Meetings. There is an interest, and we will pass that along to the AARC.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 PM.
