A lady in my continuing education class whom I don't know dropped out I heard because she was embarrassed about her tourettes. She kept sticking her tounge out every 3 minutes like she was crazy.I'm not educated as to why this disease can't be corrected ith a lazer surgery to the brain area like they do for parkingsons disease. I wanted to email you, but I couldn't get it to work. I used to date a guy that had tourette. His neck twitched, eyes blinked, etc. His symptoms have seemed to improve in years gone by since he used to jerk his shoulders etc. It sounds like you know a great deal about this. Is is always inherited? I heard that having a child that was a boy would increase the chance by 3-4 times. There are three brothers in his family. He's the only one that has it, but he would never talk about it. He would kill me if he ever knew I wrote to someone about it. We're still friends! I'm so curious as to new research or anything that could be going on about it. He did get some medicine to stop the jerking of his neck since it seemed to interfere with his teaching, bu that's all I know. Do most children inherit this? Is is worse in them? Is is just the chance you take? What symptoms do your kids have? I enjoyed reading your site. You have alot of helpful information. I would appreciate your answer if possible. Thank You, Jill Farley

I've never met anyone with tourette syndrome, but I saw a young woman on tv who was suffering from the disorder and I felt the need to get more information and become more educated on it so should I ever come across someone in my life like that I would ha e a better understanding of what they are going through and can be more compassionate. I don't believe in predjudice and the only way to cure predjudice is through education and your sight answered a lot of questions and educated me. Hello. I was diagnosed with TS about 20 or so years ago. At that time I had grade 3 TS. Thanks to the grace of God I now have grade 1 and you could not tell I had it if I did not tell you. I would like you to know that there is hope. I am proof. I s ill have many tics but I have learned to cover them up (you can get awful good at that). Thanks for all your information! Our son Chris, 15 years, has had tourettes,since he was 7, but only diagnosed for the last three years! We still know very little about it. Glad to meet you. For someone who has her ticks under control (mostly), it's difficult to get co-workers to understand why my needs or reactions are different from the norm. I gave my boss a book to read, but there's only so much you can convey to someo e who doesn't experience it. I couldn't access your ODD sight - I'd like to know more about it. I'm still struggling with not being "normal" - you really have to fit in to a certain stereotype to get ahead in the government, and I just can't calm down en ugh to do that. (Controlling the ticks causes a lot of strain which I have to release in other ways . . . it's hard to present a "professional" image when your swatting at people or howling like a coyote.) I don't have the net at home, so I can't chat i the evenings. But thanks for providing a place to say these things - isolation is a common feeling. P.S. I'm 32, of Mexican/Turkish descent, and was only diagnosed a few years ago. (I think my family thought I was retarded for a long time.) My doctor is the greatest, Orrin Palmer. Duty Calls. Toodles!

great page im very glad ts is getting much more attention when i first was diagnosed in the 70's i was 8 years old (currently 28yoa) almost nobody knew about this disorder thank good people are starting to educate the general public about ts. this is my f rst contact with people with ts in many years i stoped taking haldol when i was 13 yoa and and haven't been to a doc since i was that age i just got tired of it. since then i've been in the Air force,been a firefighter and i'm currently a border patrol ag nt with INS i think i did preety good without the haldol well i still have tics specially vocals but i try to control them myself. well enough said for know hope to hear from you soon.
