Your story was very moving for me. I also suffer from endometriosis. I've had it since I was 13 but not diagnosed until I was 18. I still suffer from irregular periods and bad cramps. I've had a laproscopy done and that's all. I had to take birth control o regulate my periods and I've been off of them for about a year and I'm irregular again. I don't know what my odds are for ever having children but I know I'd love to have them. I have huge support from my boyfriend of six years. He's been there through t all. Where I go from here I don't know but all feedback is much aprreciative.

What an uplifting and promising site. This had made me have hope. I was just diagnosed with ENDO just by the symptoms. I have every single one known to doctors..lucky me huh? Well, we are doing the pill thing starting today and hope that it goes okay. In a few months I will know. I am scared of not being a mother though. I am single and 24 years old. I just pray that we all get through it without losing our hopes and dreams. Thank you Carey. This is a wonderful and inspiring site.

Wonderful website. My wonderful wife has endo as well and it has been the trip from hell....literally. Never before had I ever imagined that a disease like this could cause such havoc. Your site as well as John's were so very important to me and really gave me an understanding about endo and all it causes. We can only hope for a cure. I will remain right by her through it all, no matter what it brings. Only wish, more than most can imagine, that I could do more for her and bare the pain for her. if nly........

Hello, I am a mother of 3 at the age of 24. I found out that I have endo last year. I had surgery and everything was fine. Now about 3-4 months ago the pain came back. I just went to the dr's today and (excuse my language) but he was a total ass. He idn't let me finish me telling him all the pain I am having etc.. I liked the first dr I had that did my surgery but she moved back to another state. She was so nice explained everything to me and was just there for me when I needed her. I feel so alon , so angry, so afraid, depressed. I am so angry against my kids and husband. I want my life back where is my life I keep asking myself. my endo is running my life. I DON'T WANT THAT!!!!!!!!! Well, it was very nice reading your story. I hope to hear from someone that has endo. See I stopped looking on the net after I had my surgery thinking it would be gone and not come back. And it did I know it did I am in so much PAIN. It is the same pa n I had before and the dr thinks I'm just saying stuff. They don't know nothing. Well, gotta go!!!! Christy

I've been so depressed lately and feeling I can no longer fight anymore but, reading your story has reminded me we are not alone in this. Thank You very much : ) P.S. I too am trying to reach Dr. Cook I know he's the only person who can help me. Take Care and God Bless...Melissa Molt

Hi Carey, Thank you so much for your web site. It is good to know that I'm not alone in this suffering. After suffering for almost 7 years I just had surgery. My doctor told me he removed the endo but a month later the same pain was back. I feel so de ressed and helpless. His only suggestion was to give me 'depo provera' for 6 months which will make me go through menopause. I might just do that, I'm in so much pain. Thank you again, Joanna....

Thanks Carey for a great web site. It is nice to know there are others who try to live with this disease. I will be having my third surgery 10/20/00. I am looking forward to it because I really need some relief from the pain. I was officially diagnosed when I was 19, I am now 27. I wasted 5 years of my life with a man that was very uncaring and unsupportive in hopes that I would "get married and have children" one day. Needless to say it ended after my last surgery. The results weren't promising and he only thing good of it made me realize what a jerk this man had been. I am now with a wonderful man who is caring and supportive in every way. I have checked out your husbands MENDO site and I just cried. Thanks again for your story and good luck wit all!

I wish for you both the very best in your fight against this disease tat many don't understand.. Again it is quite an honor for me to have Endo Sisters placed in the Survival Kit for there it may serve as an inspiration to many logging onto the kit for the first time and again to remind us all what we are about! One of the most heart wrenching e-mails I got was from endofl3 who is the director ofoperations for the ERC... In writing Endo Sisters you (group) has taught me something as well, that you a e there as much for me whenever I feel down need to vent, that the communication lines are open...This is our group and it is up to us to make it the best it can be.... Thank you for sharing your story..I cried when I read it. I am a newly diagnosed endo, my pain started about 8 months ago and I was afraid to go to the doctor. I had a laparascopy with laser removal of adhesions and drainage of my left ovary...it was fl id filled..last week and just 4 days after this procedure my pain is worse than it ever was!! I know that I have not suffered as long as you, but I can't stand this anymore. I think that the worst part of this is that I cannot play with my 3 year old tw ns like I used too. One of them says "You feel better yet, mommy?" That just breaks my heart everytime. My husband is supportive but I think that he is more afraid than I am. My boss(a doctor, I am the nurse in her office) is very supportive and has p omised to hold my position for me, right now I am on bedrest (which hasn't done much). I think he is going to start Lupron injections next week..I am hoping that it works for me, but I don't hold out much hope. Thank you for this site and thank you for etting me share my story. I want to make wonderful comments about your site, because it is SO WONDERFUL, but I am just so upside-down right now inside. I am so thankful for my understanding and loving husband of almost one year. I was diagnosed in June 2000--I can't even begin to imagine how I would have handled all this without him. I cried while reading your site. I can't seem to get enough internet support and info mation. I keep myself busy reading so I don't have to think about what the future might hold. I just keep on trying to focus on the positive--that my surgery and Lupron treatment will allow me to have children (the desire of my and my husband's heart). I don't want to think too much past that because IT SCARES ME TO DEATH! Then I get tensed up and start to hurt. I am desparate to change my lifestyle to help me live life to the fullest! I am trying every moment to not allow endo to rule my life!

Nice page. I suffered with endo for years, but I didn't know that I had it (and I am an RN). It was found AFTER the surgeons opened me up to remove a mass (which was huge endo adhesions) from my pelvis. I had a hysterectomy as the endo was everywhere and a large fibroid in my uterus. LUPRON is a very dangerous drug. I took it for 3 months after surgery -- was supposed to be 6 months. IT has been taken off of the market in Europe & I think in Canada. The FDA no says it is NOT safe to use longer than 6 months, but they are considering removing it from use. BUT the Amer. College of OB/GYNs want to use the drug. Whatever! I would have surgery again before I ever take Lupron again! Good luck to all.

Please let me know if you can offer suggestions to get me started. I know God ha a plan for my life and everything is for a reason. I am 21 years old and have had severe pelvic and back pain for over 2 years. I have seen 2 consultants and had 2 laps to determine what the problem is but nothing has been detected. I have been on Zoladex for 3 months as they thought that I must have Adn miosis, this medication has not touched my pain. I know from all the research that I have done that I am an endo sufferer, you're site has given me great inspiration to be strong, you are a very brave woman indeed. Johns website was also excellent and he has sent me some brilliant and supportive information. I just hope that they find out what is wrong with me soon as I cannot go on like this, I am losing my strength to fight this evil thing. The problem with England is that they are aprehensive to use t e scans to detect forms of endo, I am sure this would help. I am seeing my consultant on May 8 2000 to review the situation.

Your site is great. I have endometriosis and it is ruining my life. I am having such a hard time finding a doctor to help me. I spent all day in the emergency room yesterday with severe abdominal and back pain and they opted to do nothing about it, but pu p me full of meds. that didn't even help me. Nothing showed up in an ultrasound, that's why they didn't do anything. There is so much inside that they can't see on an ultrasound. The pain is like it was before I had 2 laps to take care of cysts and adhesi ns. I am going to the University hospital on the 23 of May, he is suppose to be the best pelvic pain doctor in the state. I'm sorry for blabbing on,it helps to share my story with other people. I'm afraid I will go to the doctor and he will suggest bcp's, the lupron shot or more pain pills and I do not want any of those. I have tried all of those and nothing has helped.I need more of a permanent solution. On top of being in constant pain, depressed and have a hard time with my relationship with my fiance', I also lost another job due to the fact that I am in bed 4 dats out of the month and miss too much work. Thank you for this site it has helped me. Take care. Do you have any ideas that could help me convince the doctor that I believe something is very wro g and needs to be seen through laproscope? (the last ob/gyn did a laparoscopy and said she would take care of endo if she found it..she found some and left it there!!!)

I enjoyed reading your account of multiple experiences with endo. I was diagnosed 5 years ago, just after my first child was born. I have had several biopsies and D and C's done in order to have my second child. Now she (my baby) is 21 months old and my d cotors have told me that I need to have Lupron injections once a month for 6 months or have a complete hysterectomy in order to be pain-free. I am 25 years old and a hysterectomy just does not seem to be the answer for me. I did not even realize that endo was a disease until my husband watched a TV special on it a few weeks ago, that is something my doctor neglegted to tell me. Please let me know if you have more information. Sincerely Regina Hedden

(I had not educated myself)I am now into full force investigating, because I suffer from severe pain.I also am starting to experience ew pains and symptoms as well. Thank you on your advise. I WAS going to go see an OBGYN. Key word...WAS. Now it's off to a specialist. I don't have time to waste on guesses. I am going to go into your husbands site and copy it for my husband. He has been so good to me. I don't think I could have coped this long without all of his support and help. It's time to start the healing. He will appreciate another mans view on this as well. I'm sure he feels like he's the only one who has to deal with such crazy, sickly, emotional woman like me. ha

You have a great site, keep up the good work on spreading info. I have had endo since I was 12. I finally found a doctor 2 years ago that has changed my life. He is known around the world and women come from as far away as China just to see him. His name is Dr. David Redwine and he is in Bend Oregon. He is mentioned in every book I ever read on the subject of endo and on many of the web sites I found. He has an endometriosis clinic that is in St. Charles Medical Center in Bend Oregon. He also has a doct r that he works closly with that is a bowel specialist for endo. I had very severe endo and had to have a hyster and bowel surgery, but now I for the first time in my life since 12 am happy and healthy!!! Hope this can help someone. Good luck.

I have recently been treated for endometriosis and cyst in December of 99. It was my second surgery in a year due to the same issues. I've become very discouraged in my doctors, career, and social life. Luckily I've got a supportive husband that is doing the best he can to encourage me that it's not my fault or that I am still a strong person even when the pain is so bad I can't bare to stand it. I'm fed up with taking pain killers and frightened to take any other means of meds to control this disease. What if I have an reation? What if it doesn't work? What if I never have children? Yes, we've been through the discussions with our doctor that it might not be possible to concieve. That really put a damper on things, bot to mention I happen to live children and my career is working with children at a daycare. I am a director for the time being on a leave of absence with the fear of it becoming a more than a leave of absence. I guess I'm having a hard time adjusting to what it's doing to my life and the people in it. I'm a little hostle about it too. What did I do to get this terrible and unexplainable disease? Anyways maybe I'll quit being so bitter about it once I adjust. Thanks for giving me an oppportunity to vent and also to be aware that there are other women and I'm not crazy, the pain is real and it's

I had no idea I could find such a great site, I had a hstro in 97 because of severe endo, and I still have problems, I don't know what to do. Now that I have found this site, I can read the information and find some answers. I have an understanding from m doctor that my endo was everywhere. I have high ca125's still, and still have problems with pain and other things. You site is beautiful! I am going to obtain a great deal of knowledge from this site. Thank you. I have some family members who also have e do and they haven't done anything about it. I can't get them to get it taken care of. I guess they aren't finsihed with the suffering. I was wondering can you still have problems once you had an hstro? I feel just like I did before the surgery. I have bee feeling like I still have a cycle because it hurts down there on different times of the month. Plus there some other things going on. I mentioned this to my doctors, but they just let it slide by as if I were not speaking any words at all. I am going to earn from this site and start asking questions. I hope the surgery works for you, and the suffering is over! God bless you and your family. Roxie

Dear Carey, I'm in tears after reading your story. It brought back so many memories that I have tried so deparately to forget. I haven't suffered like you have. I spent over a year and a half going from docter to docter until I finally broke down in tears in one of the doctor's offices. That doctor told me that I was either a nut case or I that I really did have a problem. He performaed a laproscopy 3 weeks later, and found the worst case of endromeriosis that he had ever seen. One month later he performed a ooph rectomy. I have been fine since. He saved my life. I haven't had any reaccurrance. I have a wonderful supportive husband like yours. What a rare find, to find a man who will stay by your side during the worst of times. This is a wonderful website. I have endometriosis also. I was diagnosed with it 6 years ago and have had one unsuccessful surgical treatment. I can't recall what it was called, but they blew puffs of gas onto the tissue and then set off a spark to burn it. They could not separate my rectum from my uterus. I am now trying to get referral to go to a specialist here in Flint and see if he can do something for me. It is very comforting to feel "not alone" in the struggle with this disease. I applaud you strength and everyone elses who is dealing with this burden.

After doing my own research on the web, and reading the symptoms, I believe that I may have Endo. My doctor has done a Pap and if it comes back okay, she is going to send m to a GYN. I almost hope that I am diagnosed with it, because then it would be an answer to all the pain I have been experiencing. Thank you for your wonderful site. If anyone could offer me any advise on questions to ask or anything that may help me ge answers, please feel free to email me. This is all new to me, and I am confused sometimes. In a way, I hope I have it,and in a way, I don't. I want the diagnosis, because then it wou d give me some answers as to why I am having so much pain. My pain has gotten consistantly worse in the past few months, and I am currently going through some tests to see if I do indeed have Endo. Just reading the symptoms that I have found online, I t ink it is a distinct possibility. I just recently had a Pap done, and if it comes back okay, I will be referred to a gynecologist. Any help you can offer would be wonderful!! Thank you again for a wonderful website!

Dear Carey, I am in tears after reading your web site. My two daughters have endo, Gwen will be 21 next month and Colleen is 17, both have suffered since their periods began at about age 12. Both have been through numerous surgeries, tests... Our story is just about the same as yours, doctor to doctor looking for help when they were younger, being told it was "all in their heads" or " they have a low pain tolerence!" Personally I have never seen two young women with such a high pain tolerence!!! We found a doctor locally about 4 years ago who diagnosed Gwen first and then Colleen. He is a kind and caring man but unfortunately his back gound with Endo is very limited. Gwen was becoming worse and worse this past year or so, her life was basically non existant, I know you understand! In October of 1999 I took Gwen out to Oregon for surgery with Dr. Redwine, what a wonderful experience!!! Your description of your treatme t with Dr Cook could have been my words describing Dr. Redwine and his staff!! I was also amazed at the way they treated me, as was your husband!! I simply couldn't say enough great things about everyone we had contact with out there. We also suffer fina cially because of the Enod, fortunately I have the most wonderful family! My parents helped us with the trip to Oregon and now I am saving to take Colleen out. Gwen is doing much better than she was, but also is not totally pain free, our doctor feels that there may be involvment with Gwens nerves also. I am hoping that she will someday soon be "pain free!!" My youngest daughter,Colleen is taking the same path with her Endo that Gwen did except she seems to be progressing even faster than Gwen did. She is trying very hard to hang in there and graduate from high school this May, hopefully by then I will have the money to take her for surgery also! The three of us have begun doing fund raising for the ERC and are active with the Endo Assoc. The teen newsletter did a story on us in last months news letter! That was exciting! You are so right about awareness and I just wanted to let you know that there are others out there trying, we just need to keep on gaining more and more of us to speak out!! Actually I have found the fund raising and public awareness has been theraputic f r all three of us. There is nothing worse than watching my sweet daughters suffer and being able to do so little, but focusing my energy to try and help others does help. (We are also involved in bringing info on Endo to the middle and high schools in our area) Thank you for sharing your story! We will keep you in our prayers. Wishing you the best always! Sincerely, Linda Kerr trophab@ameritech.net

Your story has really shed some light on my own situation. I have been trying to convince doctors that I am suffering from Endometriosis. I have gone through one Lapro. and nothing was found, according to my first doctor. I was not convinced, due to the pain I was experiencing, so I sought out another doctor wh 's patients where sufferers of endo and other repoductive problems. Her practice is just too large!! I have been waiting to see or hear from her in over a month after she said she would follow through with a surgery. I am now looking for another doctor who will not only pay attention to my severe pain, but take the time to actually find out what is wrong with me in DETAIL!! I have lost my first husband of 2 1/2 yrs over the dramatic changes in my life. He thinks it is all in my head, can not understand my constant mood swings, or my complaints of pain on a daily basis. I am only 21yrs old and have been suffering from this ince I was 14yrs old. I want it to end. And I can only cry and continue to pray that someone will hear me. Thank you for your story. I pray that you continue to live the life that you have always dreamed of. Hang on to that wonderful Husband. God has surely blessed you. God Bless, Amy L. Murphy :)

Reading your page, I felt like I was reading my own words. The misdiagnosis, the "all in your head" crap, the fact that if you don't LOOK sick, then you must not BE sick mentality exists is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm 30 years old, and have been si k for a number of years. I was only diagnosed back in 1996 after suffering from debilitating pain for at least 6 years. I got married in 1994, tried for a year to get pregnant, got pregnant in August 95 and had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. After that I h d numerous tests and surgeries and was on Lupron for 7 months, and I am still suffering, and still have no children. I did have surgery back in January 98, performed by a Dr. Lyons from Atlanta and had significant improvement for a while, but it seems to be slowly coming back. Anyway, I don't want to bore you to death - after all, this is only supposed to be a "comments" box. I just wanted to tell you you're not alone, and if you want to share your experiences, etc., I would love to hear from you. Amie

Thanks so much for your story & website. My story is a long & bloody one...I'm 32 years old and have suffered since I was 16 yrs. old. Numerous doctors, wasn't diagnosed with endo till I was 27. Also multiple fibroids, adhesions, twisted tubes, etc. 2 open abdominal myomectomies (for fibroids, etc.) 3 laparoscopies, on my 3rd round of Lupron (can't take BCP's, they feed the fibroids) Lost time from work, lost relationships, bad body image from what the surgeries have done. Last surgery was only six m nths ago, and the endo is back, full-blown. It helps to read other's stories, so I know I'm not alone. Thanks again!

I was diagnosed back in 1979. Your story brought tears to my eyes. Our stories are almost identical. I've been there, and unfortunately am still there (I'm 44). It is good to vent, but more helpful if you feel you're not alone. I've got 2 wonderful ado ted children now and go on somehow. I am going to have my husband get on your husband's site (what a great idea!) After 20 years, I still think he could benefit from knowing that there are other guys out there going through what he's had to with me. MAY HERE BE A CURE! E-mail me for a chat if you'd like.

today is 2 days before my laporscopy to find out if i have endo. I found your site very intersting and calming. I am also 18yrs old live with my fiance. I am a nurses assistant also and i know what it is like to be on your feet all day not to mention l aning over side rails and pressing into that "very tender spot." The thing that worries me is that "we" want to have children. By reading your stories as well as others it shows me there is still a possibibility of having children. I do beleive in ange s and i know one is watching over me and all of us who suffer from this disease. Thank you for a wonderful and calming page. Sincerly Kimberly

Carey I'm so very sorry for your pain. I have endp and had surgery 3yrs ago. Since the surgery I have learn to depend more on God and prayer. And for me that seems to have helped a lot. I have only one working tube and bad cramps some month. But when pray it all seems to go away. I've been told God heals and I believe he does. So I'll send up a pray for you and all endo victims to be completely healed as I will be also. May God bless and keep you

I was just diagnosed, browsing the web. Looks like I have a lot to look forward too. you know the thing that makes me angry. I think I had symptoms of endo for 13 years and I am only 25. Why did it take so long? My periods started at the age of 9 and at the age of 11 I was taken to the hospital for severe pain, they thought it was an appendisitis but that turned out not to be the case. Thanks for your time and efforts.

Pretty much the only pain I have is the stomach pains which is pure hell at times. I hope everything with you works out and all we can do is PRAY!! God Bless!!

After reading your battle with endometriosis it made my heart ache. I was diagnosed with this disease some 22 years ago, and must say I had a very enlightened gynaecologist who along with other hormone specialists were able to help me. I experienced sim lar pain and sickness as you, especially when I had my period, with me crawling to the toilet on my hands and knees as I could not straighten up, and being sick with the pain. I had five operations and a course of hormone tablets( not allowing me to have a period) to try and rectify the problem. After the second last operation at the tender age of 21 I became pregnant before the next period. This was the best health wise I felt and was able to enjoy myself and my sex life while pregnant. Christopher was born and my problem started again. They say pregnancy will improve you but with me I became worse. Twelve months later I was on the operating table and had to have a radical hysterectomy as the cysts had attached to organs up towards my rib cage, it took two specialists 4 hours + to scrape the cysts of organs that could not be disposed off. Since then (20 years I have never been better, although I am on replacement hormone therapy. I consider myself lucky as I was able to have a child who is now nearly 2 years old. I wish you luck with your treatment and hope that you to can find a cure. Regards. Therese Schreurs.

I visited both you and your husband's web pages and I was impressed with both of them. My husband has agreed to view your husband's page soon. He is having a hard time coping and understanding. WE have been married only 2 years. We're both 27. I have had his disease for at least 15 years. He also had some knowledge of the disease from what I have told him, but was and is not prepared for the impact on our lives. It has gotten progressively worse over the past few years. I have been through alot of surgeri s and drug treatments, dealt with many doctors, and negative attitudes from others who do not understand. I full heartedly agree with you that there needs to be more awareness. A friend of mine and myself tried to start a support group with the help of t e Endo Assoc. but it did not fly. There seemed to be a general attitude of ignorance of the disease. Some women we talked to seemed to be under the impression that this is no big deal. They have the disease and yet are not educated of the consequences and potential problems that come along with this! It's unbelievable! They remain alone in their struggle. I will continue in my efforts here, although I have not had much time or energy lately. Please let me know of anything that I can do to help with your ef orts or that may help with mine. Someday we will conquer this, but we need awareness! Thanks for the ear and the time. Please e-mail me sometime.

You are performing a terrific service by sharing your story and fighting for greater awareness of this stupid disease. I was diagnosed 16 years ago! I've had three laparoscopies and been on Danazol and Lupron and countless pain medications. Luckily we adopted a baby boy 12 years ago when I came to the realization that conception wasn't going to happen. I usually miss one or two days of work a month, unless my "bad" days fall on a weekend, so I'm lucky that I've been able to continue working. I hate his disease and appreciate very much sharing and listening to others who are afflicted, because those without it cannot understand. My dear husband understands because he has Crohn's Dieases and had very similar "double over in pain" type of cramps at tim s. Good luck to you and thanks for your work in behalf of all of us.

Carey, Thank you so much for your website. I agree with you that we need to spread awarness. After reading your story I feel very fortunate that I suffered from disabling pain for only 4 years. I understand I probably had endo for many years prior but as on bcp for so many years before it was bad that it stopped it from advancement. When I went off to try & get pregnant my period was horrible. I just thought wow what a difference bcp make. I was lucky God Blessed me with 2 beautiful children and in etween the pregnancies and after the last all hell broke loose. M Godsend a doctor it took me some time to find. Dr. Arnold Kresch in Palo Alto , CA. He did surgery twice within a week, the first to remove endo and do a procedure called OPERA to minimi e bleeding (7+ days super, super heavy) I had also become anemic. The second to recheck and remove any more endo and knock back already growing adhesions. My surgery was March 25th. I have almost no period or pain. He has made a huge difference in my ife. I wish you the best. I hope Dr. Cook can convince the hospital for you. Anne

Dear Carey, Hi, my name is Diane and I'm 39 years old counting the days till the big 40, ugh). I was finally given a diagnosis for the pain I have been suffering. (They have not performed the surgical procedure on me as yet primarilty because of the location which s between my rectal and vaginal walls). It was a relief to finally know what was causing such pain, but a nightmare to discover what this disease is and what it does to you. I too have known women in the past who were diagnosed with it, but I dismissed their pain because I couldn't believe they suffered any worse a pain than I did. Little did I know that I had it! The fact that so little is known as to what the cause is and or the lack of treatment, leads me to agree with many others. If this was something men experienced, they would have pulled out all the stops a long time ago and a cure would have been found. t the very least, they would know the cause instead of only theories. They started me with hormonal treatment, but I know I have a long road to haul. I want to thank you for sharing your story and helping give me the courage to get through what lies ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all endo suffers and families. Hopefully they will find a cure for this horrible disease.

I'm really glad that you told your story. I have been suffering for seven years. I'm only 18. Thank you for letting people know how an endo sufferer really feels!

I really appreciate your web site. It's an inspiration to everyone. I understand the pain and suffering over this cruel disease. I have come across many doctors that believe " it's not that bad". I have finally found a doctor that will hopefully help his pain (as short lived as it may be). Please keep updating us!!!!

I completly understand your situation my story is virtually the same as yours. For me three weeks ago I had a vaginal hysterectomy and that has stopped my continuous bleeding but the pain is still a constant in my life. I would like to talk to other women about this terrible disease. My husband too is a godsend but there are some things that he just doesn't understand. I would like to here back from you! Best Wishes Linda Slager
