Mr. Kwong, even though during the rollover, there appears to be no major problems yet, my family and I are grateful for your staying on top of things during I think the last 1 1/2 years? (could have been longer). We think it's too early to say the crisis is over as this is a chronic proble. Thank you so much for your contribution to jvim's messageboard. I have just gotten on it, and being without church affiliation but searching, have found it a lifeline for me. Not only have I asked questions, but written back to others -- two days ago do ng 2 hours' worth of research to answer one's question as to whether there are different levels of hell and where is it? (A HOT subject to tackle.) I joined the messageboard search needing some Christian counsel badly because of an experience we have recently had (under "WHY ARE SOME CHRISTIANS SO UNCHRISTIAN (WOLVES IN SHEEPS' CLOTHING?" I have gotten some excellent replies and as always, my spirit witnesses to me which path to take. Sometimes we just need to get some positive feedback or a different angle to consider something. I started writing with my name "JudySE" but was informed by my husband that the person I was writing about read the mess geboard frequently (he thinks). He said her husband complains she's on the 'Net all day too. So I changed my "handle" to "Empathy." I also suggested to jvim to add a new topic on the front page of the messageboard to this effect: "Christian Families and their Concerns." This, being since some of us have found the "Y2K" subheading the handiest to express some of these. I recently op ned, "MY HUSBAND SAYS OBSESSED WITH Y2K AND FEARFUL." Many tackled the "fearful" angle too, but that is not me; it is what HE said. I found some support there from one other pastor and other "sisters in Christ." Other experts in the field, as you cite n your pages, Gary North and the Joerger's "2000 Time Bomb" which I just got, are "obsessed also." One gentleman thought we might get a present from the Russians with a red "star" on the front of it preceding Y2K, making it rather insignificant for those who survive. He's not the only one (including my cousin, who believes Y2K will be insignificant to what else follows)! My parents followed Hal Lindsey from "day one" (until they died one and two years ago). I have had the greatest respect for his studi s, and have his last two books on "Planet Earth," including "The Final Chapter." I often have my Bible, two concordances, and the just referenced book open when I have time to write/research in detail. Even though I am an amateur compared to many of th se people (and yourself, it appears), I am fulfilling one of two spiritual requirements I believe God has given me: To read the Bible. I enjoy topical research. However, if I get too far away from "The Final Chapter," I can still find Revelation confus ng. (We really don't know why Satan is released after 1,000 years of Jesus' reign on earth, and deceives everybody, then there is another bloody battle (with blood up to the horses' bridles). Oh well. As my Dad used to say, "It is interesting." Now that he is gone (I feel alone except for God and my husband on things we agree on), I know what he meant by "interesting." Things are happening so fast, it's crazy. It's impossible to keep up with. Oh we l, thanks, and if you do get the time, please email me or, of course, a response in the messageboard would be welcome. What makes you think your computer will think it is 1900? What's wrong with 1700, or the beginning of A.D. Why should I care if my debtors think my next payment isn't due for at least 100 years. Is the computer a time-machine? No. It is a logic machin . When it calculates 99+1=Y, the result depends entirely on how the year-field is set up in the software. If it is a true numeric field, the year will become 100, which will allow the system to carry on, logically, and buy time to correct the invalid inf rmation. If the year is limited as a two-digit field, the computer will likely go into error because it doesn't know where to carry-the- one to. The solution seems to be in the software, specifically, changing how the year-field is set up. To do this, on must be allowed to go into the core programming of the OS and the user program. Just as a new car is required, by law, to have airbags and side-impact door beams, all new computers and software should be required to be compliant. I Find your Y2K a very interesting sight. My family is getting ready for the worst case scenero just in case. My husband is a RN and works at a small hospital in a rural town. Wednesday of this week, an official from the hospital that runs our little o e came out and did a talk in the clinic to the Doctors and clinic people. He handed out Y2K personal preparidness lists (not nearly as complete as yours I might add) and told them a bit about it. Duing the question and answer part, one clinic worker ask d " What is St. Mary's execting to happen due to Y2K?" the answer shocked the Dr. (whom we have told a little about it, but who wasn't open to it) by replying that "St Mary's is expecting a 50% mortality rate to occur to the patients in the hospital due t failures of medicac equipment and related failures.". Needless to say this is a bit close to home for us, but it woke up some people who wouldn't preveiously listen to us or some others in the community who are aware of what may be comming down the lin . Just thought I'd give you this tidbit of info.
