THE HIGH-RISK INFANT CARE BY A MULTIDISCIPLINARY STAFF
(STATISTICAL DATA)
We work at a Governamental’s Regional Center, where are providing Services to disable children (specially with Cerebral Palsy), originated from many parts of our country.
This Center is located at Curitiba (Paraná’s Capital) and by a Convenant with a Federal University Hospital , we’ve started a work that included evaluations, orientations and the follow-up of the high-risk infants, associated with the Hospital’s team: physicians, social workers, nurses, nutritionists and dentists.
When necessary, these children would receive therapeutic indication, in a variable period, depending on their case.
By this way, we decide presenting some important marks in our 5 years’ Program experience, by proper initiative!
RESULTS:
Two-hundred and eighty-two (282) children were registered and orientated to look for the service, mainly through the Neuropediatric Clinic.
They were evaluated and their parents were orientated by the multidisciplinary staff, at the own Neuropediatric Hospital’s Clinic.
Fifty-six (56), 20%, were orientated to our Institution (The Hospital is a reference to our State and, in some cases to our Country. When possible, the children do their therapies at their origin.), with ages between 1 and 6 months, and:
-19 were included on the Early Intervention Program (EIP): Children with Developmental Delay, with no signs of neurological impairment/lesion.
-13 were included on the Early Treatment Program (ETP): Children with Developmental Delay and signs of neurological impairment/lesion.
-24 were included on the Alternative Program (AP):Children with Developmental Delay, with or without signs of neurological impairment/lesion, but don’t have conditions to go to the Center, on a weekly basis.
From 32 children on the Early Programs (EIP and ETP):
-4 abandoned;
-6 reached the normal development, and were followed only at the Neuropediatric Clinic.
-15 reached the normal development, but beyond the following at Neuropediatric Clinic, also were followed semiyearly ay our Institution, at the Alternative Program (AP).
-7 are in treatment (children with Cerebral Palsy).
The main risk factors founded, in the 282 children, were the following:
CONCLUSION:
Sixty children (21%), presented only one risk factor.
Here, we must emphasize that 79% of these children, presented two or more factors, being common, in a same group, the presence of expressive marks.
The program’s validate consists in the early detection of the Conditions that can be installed (with emphasis to Cerebral Palsy), to that with the use of necessary efforts, by time, present a better evolution, preventing and reducing the well-known undesirable effects of a late guiding.
