Heath Ledger was born on April 4th 1979 in Subicao Hospital in Perth Western Australia. He lived with his father Kim, mother Kathy, older sister Kate, and two younger half sisters, Olivia and Ashleigh. Heath attended a private all boys’ school, Guilford Grammar School, where he was already excelling in drama. He won several awards for his work in drama, concentrating on Shakespeare Heath is also into sports, and played cricket and field hockey. When the question arose, “Sports or drama?” Heath chose drama! Good choice Heath!
Heath has appeared in several television shows including Ship to Shore, Bush Patrol, Corrigan, Home and Away, Sweat, and Roar.
After Sweat finished Heath moved to Sydney, New South Wales. After a while in Sydney,Heath landed the television role he is best known for. He played Connor in the short-lived television show Roar, created by Shaun Cassidy. This American television show was filmed in Queensland and while many of the main actors were flown in from the U.S., the producers saw fit to take a gamble on an unknown local actor to play their leading man. Heath has said in interviews that he actually flubbed a little at his audition saying he could horseback ride, so when he got the job he had to rush out and learn, quickly.
Since Roar, Heath has been on the big screen. His big break through role was as Patrick Verona, in the teenager-adapted movie of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You.
Currently you can catch Heath Ledger in the war drama "The Patriot". In "The Patriot," the Revolutionary War brings a South Carolina farmer (Mel Gibson) reluctantly into the fray, against his own pacificist leanings, along with his son (played by Heath Ledger). It is an excellent movie!! Look for him some time later in 2000 in a starring role in the movie "A Knight's Tale". |
