What sort of state is the church in today?

Many people -- committed, spirit-filled Christians --  are removing themselves from the organized church in North America.  These are not people in rebellion, or resisting God.  These are "conscientious objectors," if you will, in the Kingdom of God.  They are those who can no longer stomach the manipulation rampant in the organized church.  Some of the problems they find include:

  • Unscriptural church structure

  • Too much church "structure"

  • Paid "staff," instead of overseers raised up from among the people to shepherd the flock

  • Expectation of unquestioning obedience to church leadership

  • The church's submission to government, through the 501c3 provision, strictly for monetary gain

  • Leadership's manipulation of the people of God, for gain and glory

  • "Pastors," while mentioned just once in the New Testament as a synonym for "teachers", are so prominent in the church...but where are the apostles and prophets and evangelists?

  • The church is not called the "bride of Christ" in scripture -- so where do we get this doctrine?

These are just a few of the problems.  In addition, there is division in the body of Christ, because people take their pet peeves and make a doctrine out of them.  If we went by the scriptural imperative to "let every thing be confirmed by two witnesses" -- and had to have a point confirmed in two places in scripture before it became a doctrine -- that would sure limit our arguments to the things that really matter.  I figure if something is important to God, he makes it really clear in his Word.  The peripheral things are not important enough to argue about.

UPCOMING MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY!

Mardi Gras is 8 Feb 2005.  If you are interested in participating in street ministry, plan on being in New Orleans the weekend leading up to that day, to take the gospel and the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to the lost souls that will pack the streets in a feeding frenzy of drunkenness and debauchery.

Contact us for information on how you can do it.
