Howard
Keel died from colon cancer on Sunday, November 7, 2004. Those are the simple facts. What he left behind is much more complex and
encompassing.
No person is “just a-“ and Howard
was no exception. His voice was
legendary- indeed, it made him famous- but he was also a fine actor. Big and handsome, he could do action, drama,
and even displayed a fine comic touch.
He performed in every show business medium- film, stage, and television,
working in all the major genres. His
talent was broad and undeniable.
Howard, however, was not “just a performer”. He was also a family man, fiercely proud of
his wife and children. He was an avid
golfer and community leader. While he
could have retired and rested on his well-earned laurels, Howard chose to
support and participate in many charitable
events.
Since his death, I have received many messages from fans
mourning his loss. Not only do they all
offer their support and prayers to his family, but they mention how they will
miss him personally and how he will live on in his films. It is true- as long as people watch movies
and TV, as long as they listen to his CD’s, his ability to entertain, which was
his great gift to the world, will continue forever.
