27 March

Mum and I headed down to Rotorua for the BOP Champs.  Dad couldn't come down this time as he was working.  For once we left on time.  Our tow vehicle is a Chev C10 pick-up, left hand drive, short wheel based, the brakes can be a bit sharp at times, my mother has a habit now and then to take in big gasps of air when this happens.  First thing I said to her when we began to head off was "sit there and shut-up :-)
We arrived at the track just on 3pm, we have never been this early, hardly anyone had arrived., so did the usual things then sat back and relaxed in the hot  sun.
Race1 - I was keeping up with the best of them ( we had done some alterations here and there) until hit the wall side on, then I got a flat tyre it was hard to steer but I kept going around hugging the wall.
Race2 - well it never happened, somehow my crutch belt got lodged down between the cover plate over the gearbox. In the end I had to take off the plate to retrieve the belt ... i was not a happy.
Race 3 - the steering wasn't good everything seemed out of line so ended up in field.  Got back to the pits found that the front axle was bent.  At this stage I'd like to thank one of Peter Rees crew, really appreciated his help, so if you are reading this a big thank you to you.
Mum tried to help, but she is best at washing the body and videoing.
Licked my wounds and headed to Putaruru, stayed the night at my Grandma's.

Sent in my registering form to Kihikihi for the North Island Superstock Champs.  Found out I also had double booked for the Saturday. Go-karting or Superstocks.  It wasn't till  Friday 22nd that I actually made my mind up to go to Kihikihi.  Was actually looking forward to have some fun down there.  Kihikihi hasn't been good to me in the past, the last time I raced down there was when I raced the Standard Stock, got concussed and never went back till now...
Not really used to racing during the day, getting ready to leave on time was a mission. Constant nattering in Dad's and my ear from Mum that she was ready to leave.   We arrived down there on time we weren't the last to turn up .

Couldn't believe our luck just got car off trailer steering rod up near steering box broke.  Thanks go out to 38r (Horse) for letting us use their welding equipment and 315a (Vasey) for lending a welding helmet.  Managed to do the best of welding under the circumstances.  Scrutineering was fine only had to change the front left wheel and we agreed it did look a bit dodgy.
Told to get ready for Grand Parade, Dad jumps in to drive, turns wheel and the steering broke again.  That was it, packed up and headed home just as first race was beginning to start.  Was told by Mum that even the announcer made comment that he was curious as why we had left..
I managed to get to the Pukekohe Swap Meet in time, got some things for my Belair.  Mum and Dad called into Huntly on way back to watch some racing.  We usually take two cars down with us where ever we go.
Next Saturday it will be just Mum and I heading down to Rotorua, not sure where we are staying could be in Putaruru at my Grandmas.  I'm her favourite grandson :-)
Have already booked a campervan for Queens Birthday Weekend  to head up to Taipa.  Must send in entry form too.

On a completely different note ..
a bit of advice ..
When you purchase something always ask if they have a No refund Policy or Return by Policy...
I got stung in the holidays... bought an aluminium radiator from a specialist up in Silverdale... the bloke said it "should" fit my '63 Chev Belair.  It didn't and I wanted a refund  ... this is when they told me they don't do refunds and in the end they didn't want to exchange either, so here I am stuck with a $700.00 radiator that doesn't fit my car.
Oh by the way I wasn't verbally told of the No Refund, neither was there any wriiten  Terms and Conditions  stating this on the Tax Invoice.  So be aware ... you have been told by me ... :-)
