The tank is the first thing you must have when you get your fish. Without a proper tank, your goldfish will die in no time, and this includes the little plastic bag you probably got the fish in. That is why it is good to have the tank before the fish.
-Get the largest tank you can
Contrary to popular belief, good things don't always come in small packages. The size and surface area of the tank directly influences the number of fish you can keep, and a larger tank means the fish have more room to swim, breathe and play. A happy fish is a good fish.
-Have a place to put the filled tank
Filled tanks are not light. That is why a good, solid foundation is needed for the fishtank to rest on. No wickerbaskets or card towers here, you'll probably need a thick wooden table or stand depending on the size of the tank.
-Buy a good tank
When buying the tank, make sure there are no imperfections or cracks anywhere on it. Checking for these could save you a very messy and unfortunate incident later on.
