The International Wargames Federation only uses championships that can truly be called international for seeding purposes. Thus at the present moment in time only the World Team Wargames Championships, the Individual World Championships, and official test matches are included for seeding purposes.
The seeding does not work on the number of competitions in which a player partakes, but instead on how well each player plays against all of his/her opponents. In other words, the system is based upon the Chess system of seeding.
Thus a player is able to obtain a high seeding in a relatively short period of time on condition that he/she plays consistently well. For example, David Handley (who won the 15mm DBM competition) moved from being seeded 80th in the 1997 seeding to now be seeded as the 17th best player. An incredible jump, but a jump that reflects his much improved standard of play.
In this seeding system it is far more important to play, and do well, against higher seeded players. Often a draw against a higher seeded player earns a player more seeding points than a win against a lower seeded player.
The system works as follows:
Result
5-5 : The lower seeded player takes 5% of the higher seeded players score
6-4 : The winner takes 10% of the loser's score
7-3 : The winner takes 20% of the loser's score
8-2 : The winner takes 30% of the loser's score
9-1 : The winner takes 40% of the loser's score
10-0 : The winner takes 50% of the loser's score
In all circumstances, should the loser have a higher seeding, then that player shall lose half of the points that his opponent has earned. In the case of a draw, the higher seeded player always loses 2½% of his score.
