Invest in yourself work place specialties.

Here are some of the biggest frauds in the business community. Id love to know who invented these things. These career advancing techniques are almost hysterical.

  1. Telecommuting- If anyone is ever lucky enough to be granted a position where they can telecommute, snatch it up. Imagine the possibilities. I dont know which side is more fraudulent. The employers saying   the offer telecommuting as part of the package when they hire you (most bosses want you in the work place for a minimum of 50 hours a week. Even traveling through snow storms they believe is part of the employees responsibility. Who cares if you get killed during the commute) or the employees who get to work from home. I love the "I can spend time working when I'm usually traveling" line.
  2. On-Line training. These course actually offer a lot and much can be learned from them. But don't think they'll help you getter a better job or a promotion. Try adding that as a line on your resume and explain it to a prospective employer during an interview. "Ah I don't actually have any experience but I took a couple of courses over the internet." Then take a look at their faces. In all fairness the idea isn't bad but I don't think the business community is prepared to give them any weight in the workplace.
  3. PDP, Performance Development Process. Or better yet yearly reviews. I think a better more fitting name for these would be TRSP , The Rubber Stamp Process. Need I say more. These should be offered as an example in any creative writing course. "Your doing a good job. Here's your 3 1/2 %. ""Your doing a good bad job. Here's your 3 1/2 %." See you next year.
  4. Suggestion Box  Yup, got a good idea, slip it in the old box, and if the boss       finds out it's from you and he doesn't like it and you are toast. If he does like it he steals it. The again , if he has scruples and likes it he just ignores it. Figuring if it came from you it must not be any good. Then when it pops up later from a different source where no credit is necessary, then they use it.
  5. Open Door Policy. Your either a fink or a moron. If you have something good to contribute you better do it in a meeting. Anything else, why bother?
