          CREATURES

There are so many creatures that are mentioned in the Harry Potter books and a great book entitled "Fantastic Beasts and where to find them" also by J.K. Rowling is a great reference to those animals. I have only named and described a few animals that are mentioned.

Basilisk- The legendary snake, which was revealed to be living inside The Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts. It is said that if any living thing comes in direct eye contact with the basilisk, they will be Petrified or turned to stone. The only cure for it is a potion, involving the use of Mandrakes.

Blast-Ended Skrewt- According to Book 4, they are a "cross between Manticores and Fire Crabs". Skrewts can grow from a relatively small animal to a very large one in length.

Boggart- A shape-shifter, which can take the form of the thing, most feared by its encountered person. They usually stick to small, confined spaces such as a wardrobe or suitcase, and no one has ever seen their natural state.

Centaur- Mysterious creatures that seem cautious of astronomical signs in the stars. They dwell mostly in forest regions such as The Forbidden Forest. They have the form of half man and half horse.

Chinese Fireball Dragon- With an edging of fine gold spikes around its face, this red, fire-breathing dragon shoots out mushroom-shaped fire clouds from its gigantic mouth.

Common Welsh Green Dragon- A small, but very viscious and powerful dragon, the Common Welsh Green sports smooth-scaled skin.

Flobberworm- A very useless and not to mention, boring wizarding creature. Flobberworms are occasionally used in Care of Magical Creatures class, for no particular reason.

Grindylow- The Grindylow has long, tiny horns, brittle fingers, used to grip their prey, and green teeth. The creatures live in weedbeds, at the bottom of lakes in Britain.

Hinkypunk- This creature is a little one-legged, with the appearance of looking as though it were made of smoke. The Hinkypunk carries a light with which it lures travelers into bogs.

Hippogriff- A large creature, much like a centaur, for it is a combination of two species. It has the head of an eagle and the body of a horse, with gigantic wings.

House Elves- These large, but short types of elves live with wealthy families as their servant. They are "bound" to the service of their masters, and wear substitutes for real clothing such as a pillowcase. They can only be set free if a piece of clothing is given to them by their owner.

Hungarian Horntail- A very large, black-colored dragon, its appearance looks almost exactly like a lizard. It's tail is said to be as dangerous as its front; with bronze-colored spikes protruding out every few inches.

Kappa- Known as a monster or creature in Japan, Kappas grab and strangle waders in their ponds. They are also water-dwellers, who have the appearance of a long, scaly monkey.

Mandrake- A kind of plant animal, which can be used in creating a potion to cure those Petrified. When young, these "plant animals" have a high-pitched cry that can drive anyone who hears it, insane. Ear plugs are recommended when handling them.

Phoenix- A very spiritual-like animal, since a phoenix is a symbol of life, for when they die, they are reborn again. Their power is great, for their own tears are magical and can bring back someone from death.

Red Cap- Red Caps are small, violent creatures, which are goblin-like. They bludgeon those lost in dungeons or battlefields.

Stag- A kind of magical deer, the Stag has great prongs, which are very strong. It's appearance may be a very clean white or pear-like color. Like the unicorn, it is also considered to be mystical in certain ways.

Swedish Short Snout Dragon- This giant-lizard has a silvery-blue skin/scale tone to it, along with long, pointed horns, and a short temper.

Unicorn- Like a phoenix, unicorns are legendary and powerful creaturs as well. They have the shape of a young horse or pony, with a single horn on its head. The horn can be used in many ways such as another "filling" for a magic wand. Their blood, if drank, can restore someone's life and give them immortality. However, they won't ever be the same again.
