MUGGLES THREATEN QUIDDITCH LEAGUE
BOSTON, MA-Some young Quidditch hopefuls suffered a disappointing weekend due the cancellation of their first matches of the season. The players are members of the Greater New England Magical Sports Association (GNEMSA) Youth Quidditch Program. Each year GNEMSA sponsors a multi-state quidditch program in which over 300 local and regional teams participate. The program runs from September to April and culminates in a Championship Tournament held at an alternate location each year. Youthful witches and wizards, aged 7-12, participate in the program which is acclaimed for building magical and social skills of the youngsters. However, the youths may have to go without their flying lessons this year, according to Baltus Twitnose, spokesperson for GNEMSA.
Unfortunately for the youngsters, their gaming has been threatened not by any likely sources…dark wizards, curses, etc, but instead by the allegedly aloof members of the non-magical community. On Wednesday last, a few muggle children apparently followed one of their classmates after school (the student has not yet reached age of magical education) and unwittingly tumbled on the youth’s quidditch practice. If the children had announced themselves, their memories might have simply been erased and the problem dealt with, however, they went directly back to school and brought a teacher along to see. A major magical security breach was averted, but only narrowly, and the teacher’s screams attracted so much muggle attention that the practice site has been rendered permanently useless because of danger to our young community members.
When word of the incident reached GNEMSA, Elicia Payton, head of the Youth Quidditch Program, felt she had no choice but to cancel matches for the weekend, and indeed until further notice. Needless to say, the youths are devastated, but Payton remains more hopeful than her colleague Mr. Twitnose, claiming that she can work swiftly and get things back on track. "Don’t let the muggles get you down," Payton quipped in the popular magical way. We hope, for the children’s sake, that Payton will heed her own advice
