Make a Site!
- If you would like to make your own website, first you need to choose a topic. For example, cats.
- Then you should pick a name that goes with your topic, but try to make it more interesting than just "Cats." For example, call it "Feline Fantasy."
- Next, you should choose a program to make your site with. You can choose a program on your computer to make the site. Search your computer to see if you have Netscape Composer, Microsoft FrontPage, or Word 2000 (or higher). Any of these programs work.
- If you don't have any of these programs, or don't want to use them, you can use the service supporting your site. This is another thing you have to choose, even if you have a program to create the site on your computer.
Some examples of choices are:Yahoo! Geocities
With GeoCities, you can use PageBuilder or PageWizard to easily create a page. Also, you can upload pages you have made with a program on your computer. For the more advanced, you can create an HTML page from scratch. You also have HTML editing. This service is free.
Homestead
This service has a pick-up-and-drop editor similar to GeoCities' PageBuilder, but you have to pay for this service.
Angelfire
Angelfire provides a free service to make an HTML site from scratch. I would not recommend this to make a site for your first time, unless you are an expert in HTML.
Expage
Expage is an easy choice for beginners. After choosing your preferences in text, images, and colors, the site makes your page for you. You can also add animation, custom HTML, and computer graphics. Unfortunetely, to make another page, you have to sign up again, and therefore, have a different URL. This is a good choice only if you want to make one page.
Other choices are:
"Easy" in red means that the page is very quick and simple to make.
"Upload" in green means that you can make the page elsewhere and upload it.For more site providers, click here.
