In November 1975 several members of the Horwich Folk Club met to revive the team. They were helped in the venture by various other teams - Leyland Morris and Hoghton Rapper danced to raise money for kit, and members of Garstang Morris helped with dance notations. The leader was Andy Dougill, and he and Tommy Hewlett collected dances from relatives of the 1913 team, notably Mrs. Nellie Winnard who contributed "Original Polka" and figures from "Horwich Polka". The team first danced out on June 5th., 1976 at St. Catherine's Rose Queen. | Horwich danced into the Morris Ring at Hull in June 1979. They have danced in all parts of England as guests of other teams and at Folk Festivals. They were guests of Lange Wapper of Antwerp during Belgium's National 150th. anniversary celebrations; and have danced twice in Germany. Horwich's repertoire includes researched dances from Horwich, Blackrod and several other places in South Lancashire, as well as several recently composed ones. The dances are mainly polka dances, but there are a few single step examples - and two which use both styles! |
