Model Database ReadMe File

For Screenshots with instructions, go to http://www.geocities.com/hpmsdbase/

Main Menu:

This is the Main Menu, or "Switchboard", which should open first whenever you open the database.

MENU ITEMS:
1. "Add new kit" - takes you to your data entry screen.
2. "Edit kit information" - opens your data entry screen in 'edit' mode.
3. The next three options are pre-set reports I have created for your use. They will sort the data you have entered (all of your kits) by either the kit names, the manufacturers, or by category/scale.
Data Entry Screen, from 1 above:
This is the screen where you will enter your kit data.

STEPS:
1. Your cursor will initially be in position in the first field, "Kit Name". Type in the name of the kit.
2. Tab to "Manufacturer" and type it in.
3. With your mouse, click on the correct category and scale selections.
4. Now you can tab down to "Price" (what you paid for the kit, if you want to keep track of it - this is not a required field).
5. Tab again to "Where Purchased" (if known - again, not required, but you might want this information someday).
6. Tab one last time to "Notes" and enter any other comments. Suggestion: you can use this field to note any decals or add-ons purchased.
7. Tab past the last field to enter this kit into your database. Cursor will return to the top so that you may enter another kit.

If you want to list your decals and p/e kits separately from your model kits, you might want to start with the same kit name so that the decals (or whatever) and the model will show up together on the "Kit Name" report. Then you could classify them as "Miscellaneous" so that all these 'extras' would be grouped together on the "By Category" report, in case you want to review all your decals, for example.

Reports

Three reports are set up for you to use, either for viewing onscreen or printing out for reference (or for showing someone).

REPORTS AVAILABLE:
* The first one, "Kits by Name", sorts your database alphabetically by the kit names. This is how you find out whether or not you own all of the 'Robby the Robot' kits ever put out.
* The second one, "Kits by Manufacturer", sorts your database alphabetically by the Manufacturer. This is how you find out whether or not you have enough 'Polar Lights' models.
* The third report, "Kits by Category", sorts your database into categories (such as 'aircraft', 'armor', 'space', and so on) and should also break each category down by scale. Do you have enough 1/35 scale armor kits yet? How else will you know for sure?

You should put some thought into how you want to enter your kit names. For example, you may want to leave off "The" at the beginning of a kit name, or those kits will be sorted into the "T"s. Also, instead of "movie Batmobile", it might be better to list it as "Batmobile, movie", so that it would be listed with the other Batmobile models. And so on.
