| Everyone had to help on the farm so when
Calvin and his brothers and sisters weren't in school, that's what they
did. When he was too young to work, he and his younger brother rode out
to the fields in a wagon along with the rest of the family and it
was Calvin's job to babysit his brother while his parents worked. Calvin
told the story that one day he didn't want to watch his brother so he caught
a horned lizard and tied it to his brother's toe with a string to keep
the baby occupied so he could go play. |

Calvin and Esther started dating in 1925.
Calvin was driving his father's Model T. They went to dances in neighbor's
homes and to Waco to the movies. They married a year later and settled
on a farm near Mart. Calvin's father gave them $200.00 for a wedding present
that went toward the purchase of furniture.

| Calvin and some of his brothers caught a
rabbit once by chasing it in a circle until it was too tired to run anymore.
But during the chase, his brother Joe Tom decided to get in the rabbit's
set path and when the rabbit came around, it hit Joe Tom so hard in the
stomach it knocked the wind out of him. |

The first car he owned he bought from his
brother. It was a 1924 Model T. He bought it to help his brother who had
a $125.00 gas bill he was unable to pay. Calvin bought the car from his
brother and then sold it back to him after the next year's crops were sold. |
