First of all, I would just like to say that I'm certain that I was his favorite grandchild. I know the other grandkids probably think that they were, but I suspect that's because he made all of us feel we were. When you were with Grandpa, you knew that he loved you and that he was so happy to see you.
I'm one of the youngest grandchildren, so I probably have very different memories than the older cousins. I stayed with him and Grandma one summer for two weeks and he would take me up to the mall every afternoon and I got to roam through the shops while he sat out on the bench visiting with his friends. He had a wonderful garden that summer. He really knew how to grow things.
At family gatherings he was always in the
background listening, enjoying everyone being there. He would say, "Aw,
heck!" if someone said something that he found amusing. And when we would
leave he would always tell us to come back soon because he guessed they
would still be there.
