This stitch is usually used as a decorative edging or textured stitch.
It is done by making single crochet stitches in the opposite direction
of normal single crochet (left to right for right-handers or right to left
for left-handers). Edging: After a right side row is completed, do
not turn, hold the hk facing downward, insert hk into the next stitch to
the right (for right-handers), Yo and pull the yarn through lp while twisting
the hk to face upwards thus catching the yarn. There should be 2 lps on
the hook. Yo and pull the yarn through the 2 lps on the hook. Hsc
completed. By crocheting in the opposite direction the stitches are
twisted which creates the decorative edging.

This is a decorative edging stitch which is made by going backwards on
a length of chain stitches and pulling a few of them together. Picots
can be made over any number of chain stitches (i.e. 3, 4, 5, 6 or more).
Here are several ways which picots can be made:
1) Sc in first 2 (3, 4, or 5) sts; ch 3, * sc in next 2 sts, ch 3 (4,
5, or 6) *, rep from * to * across.
2) Sc in first 2 (3, 4, or 5) sts; ch 3 (4, 5, or 6), join with a sl
st in the top of the last sc made
* sc in next 2 sts, ch 3 (4, 5, or 6), join with a sl st in the top
of the last sc made *, rep from * to * across.
3) Sc in first 2 (3, 4, or 5) sts; ch 3 (4, 5, or 6), join with a sc
in the top of the last sc made
* sc in next 2 sts, ch 3 (4, 5, or 6), join with a sc in the top of

4) Sc in first 2 (3, 4, or 5) sts; ch 3 (4, 5, or 6), join with a sc

You can make a popcorn stitch with 3,4, 5 or more dcs as the base.
Make 3 (4 or 5) dcs in the stitch indicated, remove hk from lp. Insert
hook in the top of the 1st dc made and back in the dropped lp. Pull
lp through dc on hk, ch 1 to close and secure st. Popcorn St made.
Continue for each st indicated.
Puff Stitch

YO, insert hk in st indicated, YO, pull up lp which is approx. 1/2 inch
(1.3 cm). YO, insert hk in same st , YO, and pull up 1/2 inch lp,
repeat once more. There should be 7 lps on hk; all lps made through
one st in work. YO, pull lp through all 7 lps on hk. Chain 1 to close
st.
