11/98 Hi! I hope the info from below helps. My dad has used the software that he mentions, and it seems quite good.
| It's "Family Tree Maker" by Broderbund. Try 18005312346 and ask for the latest version which should be Version 5. It should be about $30.00. Shouldn't pay more. They are always discounting stuff. You may ask for the latest catalogue (and forever be on their mailing list). There are many family genealogy CD's. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The Mormon Church is the world's leading repository of birth and death records. They have a family tree generation program for either Mac or PC that is supposed to be really great, and it only costs $15.00. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I've been using Family Tree Maker Deluxe. It is easy to use and has a lot of nice features, including handling lots of types of relationships and the ability to add notes and medical history. It can display descendant and ancestor trees, as well as charts showing each person and their relationship to a given person. I haven't tried to print out the results as yet, but the onscreen displays look nice. It also comes with some CDs containing something like 6 million names that, supposedly, you can access to try to fill in missing pieces of your tree; I haven't tried that yet either. I paid around $90 for it about 23 years ago, but I recently saw a newer version for around $50 (can't remember where). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I have used the Family Tree Maker Delux version. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Broderbund (for which my son works) makes a software package called "Family Tree Maker" that's pretty good and widely used. | |||||||||||||||
