2/99 After getting screwed by the store where we bought our guest bed, we had to call 1800mattres for an emergency bed delivery. Their prices seemed to be comparable to what the original store was going to charge us. They delivered the mattress the next day and I believe that it came with a 30 day money back guarantee. Everyone who has ever slept on it says it is incredibly comfy. Since we only needed a mattress I don't know details about box springs and frames.
| Last week I was shopping around for a new, quality mattress. I specificallly wanted King Koil, based on highly positive recommendation of a friend. (I had been sleepingpoorlyon a 27yearold piece of junk and decided it would be wise to invest in a decent mattress, since I spend 1/3 of my life on it.) Mattress Discounters across the street did not carry King Koil, but tried to sell me a cheapo brand. I finally found King Koil at Mattress and Futon Mart in Watertown, corner of Irving and Arsenal Streets. They were very accommodating, and I'm sure you could call and ask about delivery and disposal (I didn't need either.) I think the phone number is 9260400. They have another store in Burlington too. I bought a mattress thru dial a mattress. They were very nice, recommended a great bed on my description alone and were prompt in delivering it. I got a free bed frame, delivery, and disposal. If the person you talk to does not offer all of this, hang up and call back, the next person will likely be talked into it. I did this and it worked. They did not pressure me to buy the most expensive bed, but did make a recommendation. I love my mattress, it is the firmness I prefer and the whole thing was about $480 for a queen mattress, box spring, frame, and delivery. I just bought a queen set at Mattress Discounters across the street they have major name brands and offered free delivery OR free frame the better deal is the free frame The delivery is $30 additional. They took away the old bed for no extra cost. Delivery was a few days after purchase. I didn't do a lot of comparison shopping but went to Jordans (Waltham) prices/offers were similar. Both of these places seemed cheaper than places like Filenes (from ads in the papers). Also went to Big John's Factory in Cambridge (near the Galleria) but they didn't have name brands not that this matters prices just didn't seem astoundingly cheaper to me. Tried DialAMattress on the web out of curiosity they asked me for what I was looking for and my email address and never wrote back. Also I heard that there is heavy turnover there with people returning mattresses and you run a higher risk of getting a set that's been previously returned. Overall experience with Mattress Discounters was ok though I've only had the bed 3 weeks so you never know.... the sales people weren't too aggressive and the delivery was on time. 3/00 ***I comparison shopped for mattresses last month and the best prices were at, from best price to worst price: Bernie & Phil's (Phil & Bernie's?), NE Mattress, Macy's and Mattress Discounters. I also tried DialaMattress and Big John but eliminated them for lack of selection. They may be suitable if you're looking for the lowest price for a given specification and don't care much about brand names, features or guarantees. After comparing prices, I went back to Mattress Discounters midday on a Monday (a good time for bargaining), haggled loudly, got the manager involved and got an unbeatable price from him, so I ended up buying from there. But Bernie & Phil's (near Lechmere station) would save you the hassle. Also, the salespeople at Mattress Discounters would never have come close to the price I ended up paying. P.S. If you want to comparison shop, have the salesperson write down the specs on the mattress you want to price: manufacturer, coil count, wire gauge, firmness, padding, edge features (if any). The model names are all different at different stores, but usually the coil count and type of mattress will identify the comparable models across stores. | |||||||||||||||
