1/19 Thanks to all who replied to my querry about mortgage brokers. Here are the results. I've called all of them and, based soley on the conversations I had over the phone, I like Adam Cohen at Mortgage Master and John Sexton at Hunneman the best as they seemed most willing to explain things to me and I actually learned something interesting by talking to them.
| *** North American Mortgage Company *** http://www.namc.com/ 18004004069 Ask for John Cabral (senior loan officer). No fee preapproval with no obligation. What is needed to do preapproval: (1) 1998 tax return, (2) last pay stub from 1999 or first one from 2000 , (3) last two months of bank statements for all accounts. *** Mortgage Master *** http://mortgagemasterinc.com/ 8882631435 or 7816802141 Ask for Adam Cohen (< great guy, willing to come by house to go through paperwork). No fee, no obligation. No closing cost programs. No fee refinancing!!! Interesting info on web page about splitting the mortgage into 2, one for less than $240,000 (conforming loan) and one for the remainder. Why do this? Something about rates being lower for smaller loans. I never knew this. Actually the cutoffs are: $390,000 (3 fam), $323,400 (2 fam), $252,700 (1 fam). *** NorthStar Mortgage Corp *** http://northstarmortgage.com/ 7813266363 Ask for Bob Prevelige No closing cost options. (2) Recent pay stub. (3) 3 months bank statements. *** Mortgage Network *** http://www.themortgagenetwork.com/ 8009096600 Ask for Tom Reilly (< never called me back!!!). Free preapproval. Abt corporate discount. *** Infinity Mortgage *** "This may not be what you are looking for but I would strongly recommend that you avoid using Infinity Mortgage. Prepare to hear their long list of sins. Their estimate on closing costs was absolutely off (by over $1,000), they did not get me the final costs until the day of the closing which caused some major heartburn since these must be paid with a cashier's check, they tried to get me to buy some forms of insurance that were totally inappropriate for the property I was buying, the broker went on vacation the week of my closing without letting me know he was going to be gone, etc, etc, etc. And then, to add insult to injury, they sold my name to the catalogue distribution list from hell so my mailbox is filled on a daily basis with useless junk. I have bought three pieces of property and they were the worst I've used by a long shot. Please feel free to post this." | |||||||||||||||
