3/9/98 I got quite a few responses for movers. Here they are...

***There were 3 recommendations for Stone Pony Movers. I just moved in January, and I used Stone Pony Movers. This company was recommended to me by several people at Abt, and they did a great job. They're located in Davis Square in Somerville. Stone Pony absolutely the best! I recommend them to everyone.

***Three recommendations for Julian Wright as well. I had good experiences with Julian Wright (1986, 1990). Of course, our moves were extraordinary challenges to all involved, but the moving people were attentive and reasonably priced both times. Julian Wright in Belmont does a really good, careful job. Two recommendations for Eric Aubin. He can be reached on his pager, 781516 1731, or at home at 7813962143.

***Last time we moved we used Gentle Giants. They showed up on time. They were fast. They didn't break anything. They were very polite. They seemed a little expensive. Overall we were very satisfied.

***Heard good things about Marks (Waltham) & have used Casey (Watertown). Do not know about pricing or if Casey is still in business, but Mark's is.

***I used Cheap Date in Allston several years back; they were fine. Also Dan's Van is ok, but don't know about $. Keep in mind that you pay for the time they take coming and going from wherever they keep their trucks.

People had bad experiences with these: ***Charles River absolutely the worst! Broke things, destroyed the front hallway and then argued about coming back to repair it, an unpleasant experience all the way around.

***Very bad: Father & Sons Moving Co.

8/98 ***I don't know anything about Mom's, but I would like to recommend Eric Aubin (he is Ann Aubin's son, Abt employee). He was great and I highly recommend him. His pager # is 7815161731. He moved someone else in my department last week as well as myself and my brother.

9/98 ***Stone Pony movers was recommended highly on the abt bulletin board and I used them this year they were awful cost was twice the estimate and they broke things.

***Try Julian Wright movers. They're mostly local but I think they also do some OOS E. Coast moves. I also think they use Cambridge Self Storage (near here, across from the Armory on Concord Ave.) for storage purposes.

***Olympic movers, located on Soldiers Field Road, probably in Allston or Brighton. They should be listed in the phone book. also has a storage warehouse. You can either store your own stuff, or they will come get it for you and then handle moving it to your new location. I only used them locally, but I know that they also handle out of area moves.

1/99 ***Eric Aubin: 6177766835. He's moved a lot of people at Abt.

***I highly recommend Eric Aubin. He's Ann Aubin's son (she works here at Abt). He moved me and my brother. He was fantastic and very reasonably priced as compared to other movers. He's moved at least two others in my department as well. His pager # is 7815161731.

***Ann Aubin's son is a mover and very reasonably priced.

***I would not use Stone Pony Movers they were awful and their final bill was more than double their estimate.

***A friend of mine from outside of Abt also recommended another mover Charles River Movers (their phone # is in the book). They are excellent. Everything was handled with care and they wrap all the furniture for its protection. They were ontime and there was no "goofing off" as the work was being done. The cost was $85/hr with 3 men working. There is an automatic traveling charge of about ½ to 1 hr for their travel time to and from your home. It took them about 3.54 hrs total to do my apartment (including traveling time).

11/99 ***I used Eric Aubin, who is the son of Ann Aubin who used to work in AACT. His company is Scapegoats Unlimited and they were great and very reasonable. 6177766835. Good luck!

***I have used Stoned Pony movers for my several moves. They are great. I don't know about cost from Belmont to Boxboro but I haven't had a problem with them. They moved me from 3 different locations, (2 house holds and a storage area) Somerville and Medford into the 3rd floor in Chelsea rough cost was 500.00 for 3 guys and it took all day. Good luck.

***Last time that I moved, I used Ann Aubin's son, Eric. He and his partner are excellent! 7815161731 (pager)

***If anyone recommends Ann Aubin's son Eric to you, don't even consider it. He called me Christmas Eve to reschedule my move that was supposed to be December 28 because he wanted to help a friend move. It was no fun.

***Good: Stone Pony Bad: Charles River

***We had good luck with Charles River Movers (recommended on this bulletin board earlier). They were professional, reasonably priced, on time and careful.

10/01 *** There is a moving company called Gentle Giants (you might have seen their big purple and green trucks around Boston). They are a terrific company, very professional. They might be a little on the high price side but they are worth it. They take a lot of care in your move and make sure things are done right.

*** A good friend of mine who is very picky and very good at critiquing businesses has moved three times here and researched the topic each time. She was satisfied with Gentle Giant, which costs a little more but seems to deliver better service. She had some bones to pick with Julian Wright, though they weren't awful.

*** I've used Julian Wright a couple of times, with no breakage or damage either time. I've recommended that company to several other people as well ... I don't have the telephone number here, but it's listed in Cambridge or Belmont

*** I have heard that Gentle Giant is a great moving company. They are supposedly very fast, careful, and professional. They might be more expensive than some, but I think they will give you an estimate in advance.

*** we were VERY happy with Genter Movers 617 268 0500. They did such a good job, reasonable too.

*** I would not encourage you to use Whitehouse movers -- we had a bad experience with them. The movers damaged the hallway and tore furniture because they insisted on trying to get move it through the door instead of the window.
