Kerry vs. Bush, We Don’t
Have Anyone Better? May 13, 2004 By Tim Brass Most American’s don’t like Bush, and don’t want him to become President
for another term. This is apparent
from his dwindling approval rating, which continues to shrink in the face of
sexual abuse and torture charges by the military in Iraq.
However, many moderates, and few people that would consider themselves
or are considered “right wing” see little choice. I am one of those
people. Bush seems to be misguided,
and some of his decisions and actions are indefensible. He wasn’t a draft dodger per se, he just
got out of military service through a loophole in the Air National Guard,
which is almost as bad. There were no
WMD as he assured us in Iraq, much to his, and most Republican’s surprise, or fear, and Democrats
cynicism. We did liberate Iraq, freed the Iraq people, but at a continuingly
mounting cost. He supported
strengthening the military but increasing it only in small measures. He against abortion, which he has made
clear, though he’s not exactly outspoken on the
issue. He does seem out of touch with
the people, and he seems to be controlled too much be Donald Rumsfeld, who
seems to just be arrogant and unwilling to back down even when proven wrong. These along with many other issues make
moderates, both Republican and Democrats alike very uneasy. However George Bush,
is a God fearing man, who seems like a good person, and he is trying to do
what he feels is right, though horrible misled by many of his advisors. And
by that I mean Rumsfeld. Given the choice of between Kerry and
Bush, I still have to go with Bush.
Kerry represents everything that I disagree with in the Democratic
Party and politics in general. He fought
in Vietnam, but because he was forced to. He didn’t go to war because his number
was up, and his nation asked him to serve, he went because that was what he
was forced to do so by law, and at threat of jail time. He went, that is true, but as soon as
possible he returned, and called his fellow troops war criminals and
murderers. This in my opinion
is more detestable than simply avoiding the draft. Then he participated in a Metal throwing
rally, where veterans throw their metals back as a form of protest against
the government. I don’t like it, but
its their right, and they more than most earned it. Kerry, showed up and
pretended to throw is metals back, but not actually doing so. What does this show?
Kerry is spineless. He believes in his
views, only when they seem to suit him.
He’s anti-abortion, and Catholic. (Though he’s not the only one, many
Democrats have switched sides on this issue, Clinton, Gore, Gephardt, Ted
Kennedy, and even Kucinich all were at one point “pro-life” and switched to
seek presidential office.) He voted for the war
in Iraq and is now strongly against it.
He glorifies his “stunning” war record, and was part of the VVAW, or
the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. (Not to say Bush was better, but he has
inflated his military experience.) His
policies seem to be nothing more than just what will get him votes. He’s being run by the Democrats following their party line,
just to get elected. Bush follows what he
feels is right at least, no matter how wrong he happens to be, and he’s
relatively honest. He doesn’t lie, he
just fails to mention important information, like his war record. He might keep you misinformed, but never
would intentionally lie to the American people. Kerry will lie to your face. He flip flops,
and has no really definitive stand on any issue, except that he’s Anti-Bush. So were does that leave us. We got the
foolish puppet of Rumsfeld, or we got the spineless puppet of the
ultra-democrats. Heck times like these I pray that we can elect somebody
else. Nader? I don’t think so, that’s
a laugh. What about McCain, or Powell
or maybe even Clarke? Hell, at this
point I’d settle for an Edwards, or even Clinton if it was possible. This election is as
my friend Arvind put it is, “A cum stain on the dress of Democracy” and is
probably the reason that people don’t feel voting is worth the 15 minutes out
of their day. I’m sure this wasn’t
what the founding fathers envisioned for America, a choice between the lesser of two evils. |
