Chapter 3

At the feet of the jackal

It was called Data town, a small and insignificant town just starting to adopt the new culture of the Digital World. The market at the town center, however, was pretty lively since it’s weekend and good weather. After they land their sky ship in the ‘Sky port’ (airport for sky ships) near the suburb of the town, the fellowship take their search into the market at the town center. “Well, if we’re going to be looking for the gate, we might as well start looking for it here.” Matt said “We’ll have 5 hours to split up and go around looking for any information that might leads to the location of the Gate, We’ll meet back at the town center clock.” Matt points at a large clock, which looks vary similar to the Big Ben in London, sitting right beside the town center building.

As if such history never existed, no mons knows even the existence of Tartarus, never less the gates. It is not the fact that Tartarus Gates was unknown to common digimons, since it is common sense that the gods kept it well hidden, that was troubling the member of the fellowship, but the reality that no mon even heard of Zeusmon, Hadesmon or anything that associate with these names. It never happened, there is no war of the gods, Zeusmon and Kronosmon and Hadesmon doesn’t exist.

The sun slowly sinking in the background, and the digi-destined gather at the town center clock, tired and with out a clue where the Tartarus gate is. “Anything at all?” Matt hopes to get an answer but none came from the party “There’s a store called E-Bay! But I heard nothing about the gates.., Sorry dude.” only Duke answers “That’s okay, don’t worry about it. We’ll move from town to town and someday, somehow we will find the Gates. All we could do now is to go back to the ship and plan our next move, maybe Iris knows what town with in this area could be of help.” Slowly the fellowship stands up and ready to walk to the sky port when an eerie voice called out “Do you seek the black gate?” They turn around and sees a rugged little thing wrapped up in dirty rag “Do you seek Tartarus?” “Who are you?” Kari asks, she sense something out of ordinary about this digimon “My name is not of importance, Do you wish to get to the black gate? I can take you there...” “Lets go.” Matt answer the digimon right away while the other’s are still pondering the proposition of this digimon, Sora pull Matt to one side and whisper to him “We don’t know who he is! This might be a trap.” “Listen, I’m willing to go to any path that might lead us to some ideas as of where the gate is, I’m not going to turn the whole town upside down like we did today if I don’t have to. I’m willing to take this path even if it leads to a trap.” “Then we better be extra-carful.”

It was totally dark when the digimon decided to stop. The party is being led to a forest just outside of town “We shall stop for the night, the hidden gate is still far away.” the digimon said as he disappear in to the darkness “Do sleep, weary travelers. replenish your energy so tomorrow you’ll be ready for further journey...” Suddenly, a small camp fire appeared in front of the party, glowing with the warmth of red and yellow. “Well, we might as well do as we’re told.” Matt sets down near the fire “I don’t know about this, man! I got the bad vibes!” Duke whines as he sits down “For once, I have to agree with dude boy here. Every thing about this situation is creeping me out.” Adela said “I know~I know, but you guys have to trust me on this, I have reason to believe that this digimon, who ever he is, is telling the truth.” “And why would that be?” “Reverse Psychology. Of course I know that digimon is acting vary suspicious, hack, even dude boy sees that. The problem is that he’s too suspicious, as if he doesn’t even tries to conceal what ever he’s hiding from us.” “That was the lamest excuse in the history of arguments.” “Why, thank you.” regardless of general uncertainty, Matt lean against a tree trunk to catch some sleep.

The moons were at it’s highest when Sora woke up. She strode around under the moon light and found Matt leaning against a tree close to a cliff, he was peering deep in to the moons. ”Hey there, what are you looking at?” Sora Smiles at Matt “I’m just thinking...Did I made a bad choice by bring you guys here?” “It’s up to you... do you trust your self?” “I don’t know... I guess I was just so tired back there, I’m willing to trust anyone...” “Most of us, namely me, trust your decision, we’re willing to go any where you go...so you’ve got to have faith in your self.” Sora put her arm around Matt’s shoulder “Are you disappointed that I can’t be more like Tai?” Matt suddenly asked, Sora was a bit surprised “Why?” “You and Tai... in my memory, was in-separate-able. To tell you the truth, I used to envy Tai. He knows what he’s doing... or at least he had faith in him self. And even if he doesn’t trust him self, he knows that you’ll always believe in him.” “But that was over now... I can’t think of Tai as any more than a brother.” “But your love for him are true, I can not think of my self worthy for your heart. Tai is the one who should deserve your...” Sora put her finger on Matt’s lips “My heart is given to whom I will... I love you both, but each in a different way.” Sora bent down and kissed Matt deeply, then rest her head on his chest “Now let’s talk about those moons on the sky”

The digimon in rag was not to be seen any where, the forest was quite as if no living animals ever came here “The little snitch tricked us!! We should ‘ve not listen to that weird thing!” Adela cursed “Are your limbs attached? If they are, then don’t come whining to me about trickery.” Matt replied “He must have taken us here for a reason, this forest is awfully quite, Tartarus gates or not, this place definitely is having something going on.” “Now comes to think about it, we shouldn’t be too far away from the town, but I couldn’t see nor hear the town. It was a small town but it shouldn’t be so quite...” Kari said “I think we should move around a bit, dude. look around, you know?” Duke said.

As the digi-destined explores deep in to the forest, the eeriness of the silence increases. “ Some on is watching us.” Kari suddenly said “An eye, in the woods.” “Don’t look to the woods, in your face, dude!!” Duke cries out, Kari looks up and sees a one-eye giant. It has a well built body about 7'8, it wears a rugged pants and a armor shirt. It grabs Kari by the neck and lift her up “I’m Elder Cyclopsmon, servant of the Old One! You are special, little one, you’ll meet lord Hadesmon first!!” Elder Cyclopsmon’s hand slowly enclosed to crush Kari’s neck “Aaaghhh!” Matt charges up on Cyclopsmon with a long and thick stick and slam it on his head. The stick broke in to two when it hits Cyclopsmon’s head. Cyclopsmon swing his other hand backwards and send Matt flying, breaking his ribs and injuring his internal organ. While Matt is still trying to breath from his injured lung, Kari’s face are turning red from Cyclopsmon’s tight grip. Sora picked up some pebbles and throws them at Cyclopsmon. When a few of them hits his eyes and the menacing giant turns around and delivers Sora a telepathic attack ‘will of Kronosmon’. Sora fell with her hands on her head, crying while tries to ease the excruciating pain in her head. “Holy shit, man! Are you okay, dude?” Duke runs to Matt while Adela hurries to tend Sora “My god, her head is bleeding. Damn it! We can’t win with out our partner!” Cyclopsmon, as if enjoying his victim’s suffering, crushing Kari’s delicate neck with painful slowness.

While all is in chaos, the digi-destined helpless with out their partners and Kari about to be choke to death. Matt though to him self, why did he brings them here to get hurt, why does his friend had to die because of his un-thoughtful decision. Suddenly, all things frozen in time, and Matt was brought to another realm, and a man, or digimon with a head of a jackal standing right in front of him. His body was pitch black and his eyes was flickering with red and yellow lights, as if fires burns in them “Do you wish to hold the power of judgment?” he asks Matt “I... I can’t do it...” “You can, If you believe!” suddenly, Matt remembered what Sora said last night.

It is time

In flashes of light, Matt felt warm and safe, he’s confident now, he’ll deal death and judgment as worrier of the Digi-god Anubismon. Matt is Anubitemon, the reflection of his black jackal-head digi-god-in-favor

Like a flash of black lightning, the jackal steals Kari from the one-eye brute. “A wolf-pup bites my heels!” Cyclopsmon picks up a thick tree trunk and wields it like a club “Black jackal! I shell crush you!!” after putting Kari down, Anubitemon turn around and flash out two golden sickles. Cyclopsmon swings the huge tree trunk at Anubitemon, who simply chop the club in to timber bits. “Enemy of Father Kronosmon! Die!!” the one-eye grabs Anubitemon’s neck with lighting speed and attempt to break it. Anubitemon, however, simply grabs Cyclopsmon’s hand and twist it around and skillfully put the brut into submission hold. “For a brute you sure talks a lot.” Anubitemon mocked the one-eye brute “Do your worst! Jackal! Guardian of Hadesmon will never live in the shame of defeat!!” Elder Cyclopsmon shouted “So be it.” then he knock the one-eye out with the handle of his sickle.

Elder Cyclopsmon was tied on to an sturdy ancient tree. The black jackal stands in the breeze, with his eyes closed. His jade-decorated golden Egyptian armor jingles as winds pass by. He took a deep breath, and , like some burden had finally lifted, Anubitemon turns into Matt. ”Beyond ultimate coolness!! Dude!” Duke screams like a five year old kid who just saw his favorite TV cartoon “How did you do that!?” Even Adela can’t hide her excitement in her voice. but despise the commotion, Matt still stands in the cool breeze as if he was all alone. Matt looks down and sees his hand is holding something. He open up his hand, and, like an old friend with a new look, a digi-vice sitting faithfully in his palm.
