How do i get my own domain name?

A domain name is the same thing as a URL but it's a URL that looks like this: "http://www.yourname.com". This means that you can choose your name (as long as it has not been used by someone else). Domain names end in .edu, .com, .org or .net.

The stupid thing about a domain name is that you have to pay for it. You can buy one at Network Solutions. The domain name costs $70 at first, and then $35 a year after that. When you purchase your domain name you do not get Web hosting space with it. You have to buy that separately. Never buy domain names from places that offer them cheaper than $35 a year.

Personally I don't need my own domain name because there are other services where you can get a short URL which is also easy to remember. And these services are free.
My website URL also is from one of these services. Normally my URL would be like this: http://users.pandora.be/louis.verpoorten/index.html . I thought that this would be too long so I let it change into http://butterfly951.cjb.net/ .
That's easier to remember for my visitors and I didn't have to pay for it. If you also want a shorter URL for your site (and you don't want to buy one), you can go to CJB or V3.
