Mercy Home for Boys & Girls has youth (ages 11-21) who come to live at Mercy Home are choosing a more positive direction in life. They seek security, stability, guidance, the chance to succeed in school and an opportunity to change.
That's what we do-and it works best when everyone involved works together. Through partnerships with family members, teachers and our professional child care staff, Mercy Home youth learn to deal with their problems, experience emotional growth and, as a result, are able to unlock their full potential.
Who comes to Mercy Home?
Youth who were neglected or abandoned by parents or caretakers.
Youth who were abused physically, psychologically, or sexually.
Youth who were in trouble with the law.
Youth who lived in multiple home situations in the past 7 years.
Youth who clung to gangs for a sense of belonging.
Youth who are emotionally deprived.
Youth who have poor social and academic performance.
Youth who have a history of drug/alcohol addiction.
Youth who have learning disabilities.
Youth who are depressed, feel alone and rejected.
Youth who do well academically but lack a stable home environment.
Who refers youth to Mercy Home?
Relatives and families
Clergy
Community organizations
Courts
School counselors
School principals
Hospital counselors and psychologists
The State
Probation offices
Other residential programs
How long does a youth stay at Mercy?
A youth can stay anywhere from one to over 5 years.
Some youth live in more than one residential program while they are at Mercy Home.
The average stay at Mercy Home is 12-15 months
