READING NO. 4
Not all people like to work but everyone likes to play. All over the
world men and women and boys and girls enjoy sports. Since the days of long ago,
adults(成人)
and children have called their friends together to spend hours, even days,
playing games.
Sports help people to live happily. They help to keep people healthy and
feeling good. When they are playing games, people move a lot. This is good for
their health. Having fun with their friends makes them happy.
Many people enjoy sports by watching others play. In small towns, groups
of people meet to watch the bicycle races(比賽)
or the soccer games. In the big cities, thousands buy tickets to see a
basketball game or a baseball game.
Games and sports often grow out of the work people do. Hunting and
fishing, for example, are work for many people who must get their food this way.
But for other people they are sports. In Portugal(葡萄牙), many people work to catch fish.
They fish from their boats, and sometimes they use their boats for racing.(比賽)
Sports today not only make us healthy but also happy. And they won't cost
us too much. A cheap basketball is just about everything for a few good friends
to spend an afternoon together. How nice it is to play sports!

Reading (II)
A habit is something we do very often. We do not
think when we are doing it. We can have good habits or bad habits. There is an
old English saying,
Early to bed, early to rise(起床),
Makes a man healthy,
wealthy(富有)
and wise(聰明).
Have you heard it before? It means that we must
go to bed early and get up early in the morning. If we do, we shall be healthy.
We shall also be rich and smart.
Is this true? Maybe it is. The body must have
enough sleep. Children of your age need eight hours' sleep every night. If you
do not go to bed early, you cannot have enough sleep. Then you cannot think
right and you cannot do you work right. You will not be smart and you may not
become rich.
Some people go to bed late at night and get up
late in the morning. This is not good for them. We must sleep at night when it
is dark(暗的).
In this way, our body can get good rest without being bothered by the light or
the noise caused(造成) by people around. Sleeping is
something we do every day. That is why we must have a good
sleeping habit.
