Pontian Hua Tiong Wushu Association

 

 

Introduction

Pontian is a town located on the west coast of Malaya peninsula. It is about 171km south of the famous Malacca town along the coastal highway 5.

 

Pontian Hua Tiong branch is located at the outskirt of the Pontian town. Established in 1976 by Founder and Chief Instructor Master Tan Choo Seng, Pontian branch carries a unique combination of internal and external Chinese medicine, qigong and pugilistic art.

 

From 1984, representatives of Pontian branch participated and win several pugilistic art tournament organized by the State government. This include several Gold and Silver medals in 1984, 1985, 1990-97 and 2001-03. The Pontion branch Dragon Troupe also won a Bronze in the 1996 Johor State 4th Annual Wushu Competition. There are two outstanding wushu practitioners who also won honorary sports person in Malaysia. They are Mr Lin Si Guang and Ms Lu Xiu E. Both represented Malaysia in international wushu competition in Vietnam, the South East Asian Games.

 

On the international arena, Pontian branch student Ms Wu Mei Lian participated in the 1983 4th World Chinese Wushu Tournament held in Taiwan and won the light weight Silver medal.

 

On 16November2004, Pontian branch organized its Commemoration Dinner for Damo, Founder of Shaolin Temple cum 26th Anniversary Dinner with more than a thousand people attended to observe and witness the new Yinyang Taijiquan designed by Founder and Chief Instructor Master Tan Choo Seng. While Mr Tan Hup Cheng demonstrated the first pattern using the Yang-style Taijiquan and Mr Kong Fook Wai demonstrated the fourth pattern using the Chen-style Taijiquan. These 2 patterns created immense interests among Taiji practitioners in Pontian. The Commemoration Dinner was a great success for Pontian Hua Tiong.
