War on Stupidism

I’d like to dedicate this column to those individuals who have chose not to flap their jaws on the current major issue in New York. The acts of terrorism that resulted in the destruction of the world trade center buildings, and the loss of thousands of American lives affects everyone. We all feel sorrow and disgust, but most of all I think everyone is left to ask the same questions that all start out with "What if....". What if I had been there? What if a friend or loved one had been there? What if they strike here next? So no matter what anybody tries to tell you, everyone has been affected.

Ever since this whole mess happened, I have been forced to hear how we (and when they say ‘we’, they really mean the U.S. Military) should simply "nuke ‘em" or "ship ‘em all back to where they came from". It varies depending on if it’s a quick comment, or if it’s a long drawn out conversation (in which case I just leave). However, I must really say it’s the debating that really gets me. Let me paint you a picture to better explain what a good or ‘typical’ debate on this subject goes. First, you take a room, but not just any room, a room without any windows. Why? I’ll get to that. Then you put two or more people with different opinions on what should be done, or even whose at fault in the room.

After that, leave the room immediately, close the door, and lock it! Why you ask. So when the shit is starting to get deep, you are safe, and they are forced to eat it or die, because there aren’t any windows and you locked the door. Ha! Okay, so that’s not what REALLY happens, but if we lived in a perfect cartoon world it would be.

All I’m really trying to say is that none of us really know the facts. You may swallow what the media feeds you, but don’t shit it all over me! Only a carefully selected few really know what is happening, why it’s happening, and what the fuck is going to be done about it. I’m tired of the know-it-alls, and the believe-it-alls, but I’m also tired of the automatic, blind hatred for people who would probably rather be here with us than where they are.

I’m not saying don’t talk about it. It’s good to talk about it. Love your country if you feel like it, hate it, fight for it or against it, I don’t care! but don’t talk about the ‘war on terrorism’ or anything for that matter if you don’t know what your talking about, well, around me anyway.
